But I personally feel that my children would enjoy it more over the age of about 5, when their attention spans are that bit longer, and when I could start to talk to them about the issues raised in this book – in an age appropriate way of course. What’s more this change is within each of us, for we can choose to show love and be the person we want to be. Honestly, I've become an even bigger fan of Gorman's work over the past few months and SEPTEMBER CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH! This resource has been designed to be used by an entire school to foster a shared learning experience around one text and to engender written outcomes – some with the same audiences and purposes, some not – that are ‘at pitch’ for each phase/stage but that will also aid revision, catch-up and extension where (and in whichever form) needed. But if we work together, listen to each other, understand each other, we may find we have more in common than we had thought.I like how the text is *about* making change, but the pictures are *of* making change -- small acts of service enacted. I have always been a huge fan of the the American School painters of the 1920s and '30s and I was particularly inspired by Thomas Hart Benton and Grant Wood.

She talks about not just talking about where people come from, or how they arrived in the community, but also walking people’s differences to show that they have similarities too. They learn that they have the power to make changes – big or small – in the world, in their communities, and most importantly, in themselves. And it gives me hope that the generation previous to mine, and my own, will soon be superseded and the young people of today will make this a better world. Most people probably know her from her performance of The Hill We Climb during the 2021 presidential inauguration.I'm also super excited that Gorman has been selected to be the official inaugural poet for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris 😍. Thus, while casting doubt on some of the awkward lines, I celebrate this picture book for those marvelous images and the hopeful change described within.
