Simply add a little water to your Graphitint sketch and a hint of colour in your sketch becomes a rich, vibrant colour.

Graphite and colour combine to create this unique formulation of watercolour pencil pigments and graphite. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. It may not have quite the same versatility of the Graphitint pencils – which can be left dry to provide only the slightest hint of colour or wet to become more vibrant – but what it lacks in that regard, it makes up for in portability.

Derwent Graphitint Pencils have the same properties in terms of hardness and solubility in water as Derwent's popular 4B Watersoluble Sketching Pencil, so you can experiment with adding colour but retain all the familiar qualities of your favourite graphite pencil. My review today focuses on the popular Derwent Graphitint range, the range is relatively small in numbers, however the colours are to die for and unsurpassed by many other watersoluable pencils on the market; but are they worth the investment? The colours are: port, juniper, aubergine, dark indigo, shadow, steel blue, ocean blue, slate green, green grey, meadow, ivy, sage, chestnut, russet, cool brown, cocoa, autumn brown, storm, warm grey, midnight black, mountain grey, cloud grey, cool grey and white.

Protect your artwork with a UV fixative or frame your artwork using UV protection glass which can filter out up to 99. The Graphitint colour chart shows the dry colour (L) and the wash (R) next to each colour block with the pencil number and name followed by a single number below the initials 'LF' this stands for 'Lightfast' and is based on the ' Blue Wool scale' that Derwent uses for all their products. Watercolourists should be aware that these paints are opaque, though some rich colours can be made in combination with gouache and so it doesn't matter about being opaque then.
