About this deal

It was a strange thing going through all of the emotions while reading this book and I completely understood the meaning of the emotional rollercoaster. It made me feel all the feels, and I enjoy that sort of immersive emotional experience while reading a book. Cherry knows just how to tug at my heartstrings and with this story, it was a no brainer that I would fall in love with the character while simultaneously having my heart break for what they each endured. They have some okay tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not very many scenes and not all that descriptive. There are very few authors I know of who can inspire such deep emotions with their writing the way she does.

She's back in her home town, spending the summer with her sister and brother in law, just trying to figure her life out.

But, unlike many other books, the supporting characters were also given interesting and developed character archs. From leaving her former home to going back to the small town she grew up in, Grace was just getting hit back to back with more bad news. Then she meets Jackson, and, after an unintentional funny interaction, Jackson, the local auto mechanic, says he will try to fix her car. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission.

Although, just because Jackson use to use drugs and what not, didn’t mean he was that same man anymore, as well as being a totally bad guy. The case behind the start of Jackson and Grace's story was one that can be related to on an earthly level because its so disturbingly relevant in today's society. Though she emanates pain in visceral waves, there is an inherent strength to her as she finally lives a life of her choosing, standing up to not just her cheating husband but her spiteful mother and the narrow-minded townspeople. Some of the plot aspects were a bit cliche, but I think the connections between the characters made up for that for me.She spins a tale that is so in depth and full of emotion that it grips you hard and doesn't let go and this one is no exception. I can't say for sure if it's my favorite B Cherry book, as she's written so many of my favorites, but it's the one that's touched me the deepest.

I like the dynamic between the characters and how the town played a huge role in the direction if their relationship. Then we get to the sad parts in this book, yep there were a few that had me tearing up, but then each time Jackson would heal me, god I have never swooned so much over a fictional character, he's everything that made my heart burst, these two together should not have worked, but in this case, they were perfectly imperfect, both broken, both scarred, but slowly oh so slowly they both healed the other and that was another beautiful thing to witness. They have both been through so much immense pain, sorrow and heartache that they learn to trust each other, depend on each other and together they learn to forget, even if for just a little while. Towards the end of the story it was even more heartbreaking, but also heartwarming to see what ended up happening. She’s so manipulative and she gives more importance on their family’s reputation than her daughter’s feelings.
