The JBL 104-BT speakers are driven by a powerful 60W Class D digital amplifier, which is located in the housing of the master speaker and distributes 30W to each speaker, enabling the speaker system to achieve a peak level of 104db SPL. A friendly and entertaining performance regardless of input is what we’d imagine most engineers to put high on their list of wants, and JBL has achieved that. The 104-BTs certainly mellow over time, so you shouldn’t judge them straight from the box, but that polishing of the register never quite reaches some frequencies. Our one criticism about the sonics is that the highs can be overpowering, resulting in the emphasis of sibilance.

If what you need is a little motivation and a sing along to make the working day go by faster, then this is the kind of presentation we’d imagine you’d want. The full bass end of the spectrum certainly impressed me and they certainly did not sound like small speakers. With their sleek, elegant design and compact form factor, they’ll make a stunning statement in any home or pro studio while conserving valuable work space.The inability to adjust the desktop angle does seem like a missed opportunity, though, and doesn’t afford the positional flexibility I’d like.
