About this deal

There is little about renovating the chateau, and tons of repetitive chatting and wedding preparations. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. The charming, inspiring and remarkable full story of Dick and Angel Strawbridge's first year at the Ch a teau-de-la-Motte Husson. The way Dick and Angel narrated the book is exactly like watching them on TV, you feel it all, so you will laugh and at one point you will look for a tissue, -they tell there storie with so much love in their voice, so you se it all before your eyes as you listen.

As someone who has never seen it, I felt that it glossed over so many things and was really lacking detail in places I was really craving more. It had the beautifully balanced towers we'd been dreaming about, the walled garden, the orangery, the moat; even the trees were symmetrical. The book is also very written, with each of them writing alternately, adding their own account of the day to day work, as well as their experience of living in France, the great food they enjoyed and the joy of parenthood.Channel 4 has been following and documenting their journey since 2015 when they bought the derelict château. Even with all Dick's engineering and DIY expertise, this maintained the encouraging anyone-can-do-it attitude. In 2015 they bought a derelict château in the Loire valley and became the subjects of the hugely popular Channel 4 hit Escape to the Château. Like many couples, Dick and Angel had long dreamed of living in France, but where others might settle for a modest bolthole in the French countryside, the Strawbridges fell in love with a 19th\-century fairytale château, complete with 45 rooms, seven outbuildings, 12 acres of land and its own moat. I came to ‘The Chateau’ late in the day; over lockdown in January 2021 and it has been my ‘happy place’ ever since!

Like many Brits, Dick and Angel had long dreamed of living in France, but where others might settle for a modest bolthole in the French countryside, the Strawbridges fell in love with a 19th-century fairytale chateau, complete with 45 rooms, seven outbuildings, 12 acres of land and its own moat. All the characters have different expectations of life in France and different ties back in Britain. Find out about her French château life here - French House Chic by Jane Webster and about the Australian Walters family who are restoring Château de Gudanes here. The concept of moving house let alone moving to another country sounds like a massive headache, however the positive way in which this book is written would allow people to at least contemplate a move to a ‘better way of life’ where you could possibly live self sustainably or just be in a place where you can appreciate the culture more. Things don’t always work first time and as Dick finds out; something as simple as drilling a hole in the wall is a momentous task that takes him days as opposed to hours. As warm and entertaining as their much\-loved show, A Year at the Château is a truly irresistible story of adventure and heart, epic ambitions and a huge amount of hard graft. because I don't want to renovate a castle of my own (let alone do TV shows to make it possible—no shade, and I'm delighted that other people are doing it, but being on television is not any version of my dream job! I've enjoyed the TV show about the Strawbridge's purchase and renovation of a stunning 19th Century Château in the French countryside, so I knew I would also love the book.

Nature is described at its best and the couple literally plonk you right in the surroundings with them.I found this to be an easy, feelgood read with enough in the different characters to keep my interest to see how it was all going to pan out.
