About this deal

On his latest, Urban never sounds less convincing than when he’s trying to create three-dimensional female characters, whether on the forced Coachella dream sequence “Drop Top” or “Gemini,” a maddeningly reductive character sketch that culminates with Urban singing: “She’s a maniac in the bed/But a brainiac in her head. It’s not even close to country which is probably why I’m not that pissed off about and haven’t given it much attention. Obviously it’s the first letter of my last name, but I liked that when you say it, it’s also the word ‘You. If you had a couple of teenagers singing that song it would be a reasonable summer pop song but we don’t have a couple of teenagers doing it.

Trigger, your review simply affirmed what I already suspected from the radio singles I have heard off this album – I’m better off putting the money I might have wasted on this towards Ashley Monroe’s newest. Records that aren't in picture sleeves will either be in a company sleeve or a generic plain sleeve. And then that damn Ripcord album came out, and, in his red carpet appearances, he started looking more and more ridiculous for a grown man. If this music finds a following anywhere but on radio and outlets who CLAIM to be promoting COUNTRY music , fine .But Urban threw a curveball on Wednesday night, packing the club to capacity to play a free surprise show and unveil plans for his Graffiti U World Tour and forthcoming album, also titled Graffiti U. And that’s all the worse when you compare this to the music that Jason Boland made after he stopped drinking. I am loving the new Album, in the last 6-8 months I found Keith Urban's music and now have 3 Albums he has captured my interest back in music, Thank you Keith Urban.

Perhaps predictably, the well-intentioned song was met with both praise and criticism in a country ecosystem that is struggling to support and sustain its female entertainers. He was never going to confuse anyone with George Strait, but I thought he did pop country in the 2000s as well as anyone, and was a breath of fresh air when he started. The word "graffiti" came to him while he was working the album, because the process was like graffiti for him. Drinking and hooking up lyrics have been rampant in traditional country music since country music began. There are so many amazingly gifted country-music dedicated unknowns struggling to be ” keepers of the flame ” who have far better material than we’ve ever heard from the KU camp .

Unfortunately, Urban doubles down on his Music City mansplaining on Graffiti U, and the results tend to land somewhere between uncomfortable and embarrassing. On 23 April, he performed the song at a Spotify "Fans First" event in Nashville, Tennessee along with " Parallel Line" and " Wasted Time", from his previous album Ripcord. Starting with the stupid cover where he’s trying to portray some angsty 20-something club rat ripped on designer drugs, you can tell that Keith who recently turned 50 is far from ready to embrace the onset of maturing adulthood. At least McGraw throws us a bone once in a while as if winking to say ” Yeah …I know half of this stuff is just nursery rhymes for the mindless demographic that pays the mortgage ….does it seem remotely fair to you that keith urban’s music should get exposure on a country station while Alan Jackson , George Strait , Joe Nichols and countless other ACTUAL country singers can’t ? The album was heavily influenced by experiences from Urban's youth, and includes the singles "Female", "Parallel Line", "Coming Home" (featuring Julia Michaels), and "Never Comin' Down".
