Consider this a proper introduction to but a few of the many who still dwell among the living in a house revealing as many secrets. The female figure who showed herself with a broken neck was identified by the Warrens as Bathsheba, and often attacked Carolyn, the girls' mother. This book was FULL of repetitiveness, the same tales told from different view points, the same phrases used again and again, like Andrea forget she had already written about a ghostly encounter so she just threw it in somewhere else to make sure. Leaning back into his perpetual pose, watching, no doubt wondering about a sudden changing of the guard, he too would soon become a familiar part of the new landscape. Two months after the Perron family abandoned this place in the country, John, all of nineteen years old, drove from Rhode Island to Georgia.

Perhaps the ghosts were trying to prove that everyone gets abandoned to a terrifying death- even if they had to artificially set it up. I didn't like how the author would bounce back and forth between time, like for instance she'd be talking about some occurrence that happened when the family just moved into the house, then the very next chapter it's about some other thing that happened 8 years after moving in. For more than twenty years I was a cast member with The Theatre Company of Rhode Island, performing on the stage of The Assembly Theater, the historic centerpiece of Harrisville. And when she actually does get to the scary incidents that happened in the house, they are undeniably creepy. I found this to be an interesting recounting of one family's experience with the paranormal when they purchase a haunted house and live there for ten years.

John Arnold decided to claim her life at the age of ninety-three and was discovered, cold and gray, as stiff as the wood from which she was found dangling in the rafters of a barn. Each chapter deals with one cluster of experiences, or place, or friend and that may skip from the first year, to four years or even later.

Since there were several times when various people had energy sucked out of them, this approaches vampiric type activity. It is the kind of writing that uses at least four paragraphs to say something that could have been said in one or two sentences.

The author mentioned in an interview that she was looking for a publisher who wasn't going to edit it. made me wonder does this author really think all the readers who took the time to read this story were THAT dumb that we lacked the knowledge to understand when a point was being made in a sentence. Having heard another the movie, I decided to read the story behind the hauntings first, and boy am I glad I did.
