About this deal

These are adults, hardened by life and loss and seeing them finally find someone they could be happy with…was everything. I love romance novels and Notes on Love is the perfect one to make you feel that even though your heart is shattered, there is always someone out there that can piece it back together.

I think in this story, Seth wrath should be enough to carry his "bad" side; there is no need to add the part about him scoring with girls because he was traumatized. I felt this didn't know what it was, its not advertised as a bridal book but it is mentioned multiple times as a bridal book which makes sense with the poetry excerpts for readings and the love song examples for the first dance but other essays veered off the bridal book theory. The main body of the book can I think be best described as an extended copy of the Sunday Times Style magazine. Having just been dumped by his girlfriend, British-born Hugo is still determined to take his last-hurrah-before-college train trip across the United States.

I wish someone had given me this book as a reminder to enjoy every season in life and not miss the beauty in it all. Hardly a topic to dwell on, totally incoherent next to the deeper content, and quickly dated and much more suited to the magazine I mentioned above. Every laugh, every blush thawed my heart and made me think about possibilities that I promised myself to never entertain again. If it were a coffee table book only, like the big Dior/ Chanel/ other art books, I’d understand somewhat. The hot topic of feminism has been well documented and debated in mainstream media and yet, as Christians we come to the conversation from a slightly different vantage point.

It took me a long time to warm up to Mae, and by the end I wasn't sure I liked her so much as empathized with her.I was swooning at how Seth, who thought Kiran was married, still decided in his own mind that she was his and only his. I loved the different realizations they each came to—Mae, that it was ok to be vulnerable in her artistic work, and Hugo, that he needed time to be on his own and find comfort in solitude. The male protagonist (Seth) gave the impression that he was angry with the world because of the bad events that happened in his life.

Seth and Kiran's love story will have you swooning over Seth and adding hmm to your book-boyfriend list. I wish there had been a bit more description of the places Mae and Hugo visited, or of the influence the scenery had, but it wasn’t a huge problem by any means. Seth didn't suddenly become cordial and all-good-tempered when he met Kiran, it's a work in progress.

The way he latched into Seth and wanted to hang out with him all of the time was so sweet and definitely made me cry tears of joy. The secondary characters jump off the page more than the relationship, which feels like a backdrop rather than the plot.
