About this deal

I was looking at pictures of Batman and Detective Comics covers, and I was surprised because they didn't fit with some of my preconceived ideas about the Silver Age. Ben Affleck donned the cowl in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), a joyless portrayal of DC’s two most-recognizable heroes. While a large number of mainstream-comics professionals both wrote and drew their own material during the Silver Age, as many had since the start of American comic books, their work is distinct from what another historian describes as the "raw id on paper" of Robert Crumb and Gilbert Shelton. According to historian Peter Sanderson, the "neo-silver movement" that began in 1986 with Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? You then look at some of the relevant comics from that general period and you see some similiarities--like the revival of "Golden Age" super-heroes, the creation of new origin stories, a slicker art style and a greater focus on science fiction ideas.

Only moans would be, I wish they would give details about the restoration, details about the source material used, as well as I would love to see an essay or two and perhaps some bonus pages of original art pages and perhaps the adverts that were originally included or used to advertise the Batman / detective comics. In 1936, this self-proclaimed compulsive doodleholic pencilled and inked his first comic book work, Hiram Hick. The focus is on Bat-villains, so if the character is from someone else's rogues gallery (like Weather Wizard) they won't make it in but if the character is a general villain (like Solomon Grundy) they will. The stories themselves are often only 5 or 10 pages at most and they are fun and odd and weird and just about everything you would hope the silver age (and comics to be now) to be. Film and television credits include scripting The Green Slime (1969), Track of the Moon Beast (1976), and three episodes of 77 Sunset Strip. I actually stopped collecting the Batman Golden Age Omnibus’ because they got to the period of stories that were at best silly fun and at worst boring, childish fodder. He ignored some of the elements of the "Old Look" like Batwoman, Bat-Girl, Ace the Bat-Hound, Bat-Mite and he had Alfred killed off.

Harvey Comics' Harvey Thriller imprint released Double-Dare Adventures, starring new characters such as Bee-Man and Magicmaster. The issue I had with the Golden Age was the amount of one shot characters that walked the line between criminal and villain. Many of the company's comics featured young girls who "defied stereotypes and sent a message of acceptance of those who are different". Gold Key did licensed versions of live-action and animated superhero television shows such as Captain Nice, Frankenstein Jr.There were more than a few stories like “The Rainbow Batman” that had a much better setup than payoff. Notably absent are most of the villains that made Batman famous: there's one Joker story and one that features a bust of Two Face, but that's it.

DC has kept these comics pretty much tucked out of sight for over 40 years, reprinting earlier stories from the Golden Age or later ones from the eras that followed the characters' transformation in the mid-60s into TV stars and then into the gritty, deadly serious crimefighters of the post-Miller universe.I would prefer the whole range of years that included the silver age- I am open to either online, digital readings as well as physical hardcopy. That story proved so popular that the team quickly became the main feature in WORLD’S FINEST COMICS—and thus the greatest partnership in comics was born. As the distributor of DC Comics, this man certainly knew all the sales figures and was in the best position to tell this tidbit to Goodman. Other notable pencilers of the era include Curt Swan, Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Gil Kane, Jack Kirby, Joe Kubert, Don Heck, George Tuska, Dick Ayers, and John Romita Sr.

With dynamic artwork by Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don Heck, and others complementing Lee's colorful, catchy prose, the new style became popular among college students who could identify with the angst and the irreverent nature of the characters such as Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Hulk during a time period of social upheaval and the rise of the counterculture of the 1960s. The mad scientist theme relying on drugs and mental manipulation very much has more of a pulp feel than the superhero/sci-fi themes that dominated the Silver Age. Finger s television credits include 77 Sunset Strip, The Roaring Twenties and Hawaiian Eye during the late 1950s and early 1960s.It's kind of fitting that the first new villain of the Silver Age was such a throw back to the Golden Age. Editor Jack Schiff soon made the Superman-Batman team a regular feature in WORLD'S FINEST, where Hamilton wrote the majority of stories until 1966. Although its characters have inspired a number of nostalgic films and ranges of merchandise, Harvey comics of the period are not nearly as sought after in the collectors' market in contrast to DC and Marvel titles. Sol worked closely with Independent News' top management over the decades and would have gotten this story straight from the horse's mouth.
