About this deal

Concepts of Modern Mathematics is another superb edition written by Ian Stewart that looks at Maths with humour and storytelling to explain such topics as topology, subsets, sets, groups, Boolean algebra and much more. Chaos is not a text book therefore is not a study book but rather an interesting walk through the history and times of the Chaos theory. We meet over Zoom two weeks before her second baby is due and the signs of expectant mother fatigue are showing, as she reveals her bulging stomach to the camera. In the end, Wiles was forced to work in secrecy and isolation for seven years, harnessing all the power of modern maths to achieve his childhood dream.

Stephen Hawking is considered to be one of the world's greatest thinkers and this book certainly gets us thinking about where we belong in the scheme of things. Devlin has written twenty three books on mathematical issues therefore he demonstrates a real talent of how to relate Maths in an understandable format to the public at large. Abstract Algebra is central in most undergraduate mathematics degrees, and it captures regularities that appear across diverse mathematical structures - many people find it beautiful for this reason. But its abstraction can make its central ideas hard to grasp, and even the best students might find that they can follow some of the reasoning without really understanding what it is all about. At the age of four, he could ask you when you were born and then calculate the number of seconds you had been alive in his head. misconceptions about the nature of mathematics, Professor Ogilvy takes you on a lively tour of the four basic branches of the subject: number theory, algebra, geometry and analysis. This book sets out to prove that it can, through a selection of short articles on surprising maths in everyday life. It looks like a bog-standard pop maths compilation, but it’s packed full of really interesting stuff. Focusing on the interesting, and even amusing, aspects of mathematics, he points out the interconnections between the branches and presents mathematics as a vital subject whose frontiers are continually expanding.

The Chaos theory is applied in many different fields including meteorology, sociology, physics, biology, engineering and philosophy. Readers are encouraged to ponder and think for themselves opening up their minds to reasoning and thinking about problems and theories in their own way. In Code follows Sarah through how she made her discovery, how she coped with it plus how it affected her life and that of her family.

The emphasis is on helping the reader in understanding and constructing proofs and writing clear mathematics. The weight comes off in its own time and I've got a whole range of dresses ready in different sizes for when I go back to work.

Edward Hurst and Martin Gould, authors of the book have covered all areas well for those who are making the important transition from young Maths Student to studying for a Maths degree at university. Sprinkled with games and links to interactive online content so you can try out some of the ideas for yourself!

Despite its worthy cover this book is exactly what its title says - a story - and the plot of this story involves life, death and revolutions of understanding and belief. problems, that 'seem difficult, and indeed are difficult if you go about trying to solve them in traditional ways. Beautifully crafted and immensely enjoyable, the problems in this book require minimal technical knowledge, being accessible to young secondary school pupils.

I find all ofclifford pickovers books interesting for anyone interested in mathematics especially 12-14 year olds. This book is invaluable for anyone who wishes to promote mathematical thinking in others or for anyone who has always wondered what lies at the core of mathematics. In so doing, the common less efficient approach is first mentioned and then the effective strategy is shown. How to Think about Abstract Algebra provides an engaging and readable introduction to its subject, which encompasses group theory and ring theory. It’s a book about an area of maths you’re extremely unlikely to need or even encounter in grown-up life, but presented through a most charming, whimsical story.
