About this deal

We found that the Emile Henry ruffled pie dish was a perfect fit for almost any style of pie. Shallower custard pies that are made with a smaller pie shell won't look like they're being swallowed by the pan since there isn't a formal rim, and larger pies have plenty of room to grow. We also found that the dish has a whopping 6-cup capacity, meaning you can comfortably load your next apple pie up with well over four pounds of sliced apples. Deep pie pans are pans with dimensions larger than the standard pie pans and can hold larger recipes. For instance, they can be 9.5 or 10 inches wide and 1.4 inches deep. With a deep pie pan, you’ll get more pie crust and filling.

Pyrex is a classic brand for baking dishes of all kinds, and its glass pie plate does not disappoint. Glass is a multifunctional material that won’t absorb odors, cling to food, or scratch easily. This dish is safe for use in a preheated oven, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher, though you should allow enough time for the glass to adjust to the temperature change to avoid any shattering. When I lower the oven temperature, I add a pie crust shield. You can buy one, or you can make a DIY pie crust shield out of aluminum foil. Tear off a large square of aluminum foil, fold it in half, and then cut a half-circle in the center of the folded edge. Unfold it and place it on the pie. This will protect the edges, to ensure the crust doesn’t burn. How Do I Know When Apple Pie Is Done? Flute or Crimp the Edges: To adhere the top and bottom crust together, and to seal in the juicy filling, be sure to flute or crimp the pie crust edges. How well the pans distribute heat, especially when baking custard pies, evenly cooking the filling from the center to the edge without over or under-baking the filling. Not only is this pie plate relatively easy to find, but it also comes at a price that won’t leave a hole in your wallet. It all comes with the reliability of Pyrex’s signature tempered glass, used in their entire line of kitchen and bakeware—from measuring cups and casserole dishes to storage containers and dinnerware. T his is because the center of your pie will have a constant temperature and has a lower exposure to evaporation. However, baking with deep pie pans takes a longer process because it takes time for heat to penetrate the center of the pan. This pie is deep-dish style, but you don’t need a super special pie dish to get started. Any 1.5- to 2-inch-deep pie dish works here. You’ll simply pile those apple slices nice and high!

The size of a pie pan affects the results you get when baking your pie. As such, you should choose a pie pan of the perfect size. Type of Pan Flute the edges. Here is my video for how to flute pie crust. You could also simply crimp the edges with a fork, a method I show in the same video. Alexia commented: “WOW! The best apple pie I have ever had or made. As with all of the recipes I’ve tried from Sally, it’s a keeper for sure! ★★★★★ “ Slightly wider than our favorite glass pan and sporting a flat, frilled rim, this pie dish got ruled out because it offered no appreciable benefits versus the basic Pyrex model, and its wide rim felt cumbersome when shaping and filling crusts. Don’t use Pyrex to microwave popcorn or heat foods in browning wrappers. Microwavable popcorn bags and browning wrappers are specially designed to concentrate heat in targeted spots, and may damage the glass.

The width and depth of your pie pan depend on your recipe. For instance, if you want your pie to hold more moisture, you should buy a deep pie dish. However, you can use the standard pie pan, which is nine inches wide and approximately one to one and a half inches deep because it is adaptable. Types Of Pie Pan Sizes Jenny Kellerhals is our resident pastry and baking expert who tested our pie pan recommendations in her home kitchen. She completed a Baking & Pastry Program at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and has worked in professional kitchens for over a decade. Available in three colors, the retro design plays up the nostalgic feeling of a fresh-baked pie straight out of your grandma’s oven—which is really half the point of a comforting homemade pie in the first place. And if taken care of, it's likely that this pie dish might last generations and actually be someone's grandmother's pie dish one day.
