About this deal

What I did like is its sturdy carry handles either side for moving it around the room and the large chunky handle at the front for lifting the lid. The controls were clear: there are named presets (rather than symbols), recognisable buttons for toggling time and temperature manually, and a large display spelling out when to ‘add food’ or when it’s preheating. This display also shows ‘off’ when it’s off, which feels a little redundant, but this does eventually turn off. Using the air fryer grill

Overall we found the air fryer performed well, we definitely used it more as a grill than a typical air fryer, because the grilled food was just delicious and we loved the little seared food lines! Healthy way to cook – you’ll only need minimum oil to cook. Even air fryer chips will only need around 1 tbsp of oil, and you can use healthy oils too.

The Chefree AWF20 serves not only as a great alternative to a conventional oven with faster cook times and less energy consumption, but it also has a leg-up on most of the air fryer competition. It also includes the ability to air fry – suitable for those who aren’t sure how often they’ll make chips and other air-fried goodies, but would like the option from time to time. Design and features Maximum Crisp, Minimum Guilt: Thanks to the 360° rapid air circulation technology, you can have 100% taste satisfaction with crispy on the outside and tender on the inside results, with up to 90% less oil and saving 80% energy bill. The CHEFREE AFG01 is more of a multi-cooker than a stand-alone air fryer. It comes with a large cooking pot with a grill plate and crisper basket as optional inserts. The performance of the AFW01 Air Fryer was good overall but there are some areas that could use improvement. For example, as there are no recipes, or guidance for cooking different types of food, I was unsure what programme to use for frozen food, although as 200°C was the highest temperature available, this seemed like the best option.

The post-pandemic parallel stresses of a cost-of-living crisis compounded by soaring energy bills has been a positive boon for the air fryer industry. People have still got to eat, so the idea of being able to prepare hot meals in half the time has proved a deliciously attractive proposition. If you have limited space but still love cooking, grilling and baking then the Chefree can replace your oven and grill. The Chefree In Use XL Family-sized Capacity: With 6L XL capacity, serves 4-6 servings, grill up to 4 steaks, 1 kg of fries, mains and sides, great for gatherings. There is a Chefree App featuring over 100 recipes "by our chef" (the company says), organised into useful categories, e.g. 'Breakfast Food' and a '21-day Food Plan'. There's a traditonal Recipe Book format, where you can search/define by keyword (e.g. Simple, Western, French, Japanese, Difficulty etc) and also save your own recipes. With eight cooking modes available, there’s practically an option for whatever you need, down to rather specific modes like Broil that’ll deliver top-down heating only to melt the cheese on your toast perfectly. Within each basket is a crisper plate, which can sit either one-third or two-thirds of the way down depending on what you’re cooking – you can bring foods like sausages closer to the heat source when grilling for a better finish. A handy little touch is the addition of grippy silicone feet on both sides of the grill plate that helps it stay securely place, even if you’re tipping a basket of chips onto a plate. The cooking basket is much easier to clean than the usual air fryer baskets and I had no issues with burning or smoking. The air circulation is better than the pull-out basket air fryers. Using the crisper basket Cooking Pot: has an impressive 6L capacity that can cook proper big family meals. The ceramic coating makes it a cinch to clean plus it is dishwasher safe.

One of the more interesting features of the Chefree AFW20 compared to most air fryers is the inclusion of windows, bringing its comparison to a full-blown oven closer than ever – especially when combined with in-basket lighting to give you a clearer look at your food. The top row is reserved for all eight cooking modes: air fry, roast, air crisp, broil, bake, dehydrate, reheat and grill. Once you select one of the cooking modes, you’ll then be able to tap either L or R, depending on which basket you use and tweak your time and temperature settings using the up and down keys on either side. Cooking steak was so easy and you even get gorgeous grill marks on your steaks 🙂 What’s more, most of the fat drains from the food into the basket below allowing for healthier cooking. Grill Plate: this heavy-duty grill grate turns the Chefree into an indoor grill. A huge plus if you love grilling but have no outside space, or rainy days to contend with! Still, if your kitchen countertops are big enough, it’s doable – and there’s a good reason why it’s so large.

There’s no guidance in the instructions for how much food can be cooked in the air frying basket, but the instructions have an illustration of a basket filled up with chips for the fries setting, and the manufacturer states it’ll accommodate up to 1kg. However, given the mixed results this produced, I would recommend just covering the bottom of the basket with potato. Thankfully you can adjust the cooking time and the temperature while the food is cooking. I would however like the option to skip the preheating, as certain recipes do not require it. Using the air fryer grill The AFG01 comes with a crisper basket which is really big! Easily fitting in enough chips or potatoes to feed a family of six.
