About this deal

Established by award-winning baker, patissier and the man behind Baker and Cook, Dean Brettschneider, the school aims to guide both amateur and professional cooks in the art of baking, offering courses such as basic bread baking and pastry-making. Want to customise a class for a group? The baking school also caters to children’s birthday parties and team building events that will turn your work fam into a baking squad. His bread is simply *chef’s kiss*. As Mehnaz chats, she is also over seeing a fresh strawberry chocolate cake which needs frosting and the final touch-up. Demerara sugar is similar to turbinado sugar since it is also minimally processed and has a coarser grain. However, demerara sugar is darker and has more of a molasses flavor, making it a better substitute for brown sugar. Muscovado Sugar

Pour the batter into a greased and lined 23cm/9in square cake tin and spread it level. Bake for about 30 minutes until firm to the touch and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.Kosher salt: Larger, coarser crystals than table salt; this size is because the salt was originally designed for salting meat (thereby koshering it). There are two main brands of kosher salt you’ll encounter: Diamond Crystal and Morton’s. They are not the same. Morton’s flakes are bigger and denser than Diamond Crystal's. As a result, when measuring by volume Morton's is saltier than Diamond Crystal (and the two cannot be used interchangeably — unless you measure by weight). Choose simple recipes that involve combining ingredients and that use simple tools. Find out from children’s parents and carers what they like to prepare at home and make sure that the recipes you use reflect your setting’s diverse community. From a very young age, children are exploring different materials. With these materials a child will naturally start to make marks. Babies might use their whole bodies to make marks with mud, paint or cornflour in a tuff tray, or with food at mealtimes. A toddler might splash in a puddle and notice the prints they make. What kind of cakes do you prefer baking? Tall and fluffy or short and moist? Frosted, glazed, or plain? Let us know in the comments below! Fine motor skills depend on gross motor skills. You need a joined-up approach for developing whole body physicality and strength.

Parkin is a traditional ginger cake which originates from Yorkshire and Lancashire. It is baked throughout the winter months but it is traditional to eat it on bonfire night/Guy Fawkes night (the 5th November). You can help children develop fine motor skills by providing an environment, experiences and activities that encourage a joined-up approach to physical development. Turbinado sugar and Demerara sugar can be used interchangeably when sprinkled on top of baked goods Treacle and golden syrup: Some recipes for parkin use all treacle, but I think that it is nicest made with a blend of treacle and golden syrup, all treacle is a bit too intensely flavoured for me.
