About this deal

The Hogwarts Monthly Magazine was founded by a 2nd year Gryffindor witch at Hogwarts, Hiya Debnath, in lieu of facilitating the easy spread of information, news and entertainment in the Hogwarts Castle.

The library books have various spells on them to prevent students from defacing or stealing them (QA). Chocolate (and presumably other food) is forbidden in the library ( OP29). Madam Pince is the kind of librarian who sees herself as the guardian and protector of the books, at odds with the students who try to use them. Her demeanor does not suggest that she would be very helpful. In fact, when Hermione, Ron, and Harry were looking for information about Nicolas Flamel, they decided they wouldn’t even ask her. Research must be very difficult in the Hogwarts library. Step onto iconic sets including the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest, Platform 9¾ and Diagon Alley. What props will I see?

The Turf Tavern is not an Oxford Harry Potter filming location but was a location where the actors and crew would visit for a drink or dinner after filming. If you’re anything like me, any beautiful old library will make you immediately exclaim “IT’S LIKE HOGWARTS!“

Study of Ancient Runes: Madam Pince was well versed with the study of runes, as she could use a Rune Dictionary to translate ancient runic symbols. [7] [40] The publication of both of these books gave Jigger enough money in royalties that he was free to work in a casual consulting capacity for the Ministry for the rest of his life. As they were frequently used as textbooks at Hogwarts, he often received queries from students while he still lived regarding particular defensive spells or techniques in potions. Jigger was well-known for his promptness and thoroughness in replying to such letters, which made him a favorite for many a student even following his retirement from public life This incredible room was used as the Hogwarts Hospital Wing during Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Do you remember when Dumbledore eats an earwax Every Flavour Bean?

About the contributors

Jigger taught the Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts for eight years before deciding to transition to traveling and writing full-time. His experience at the Ministry made him particularly anxious to emphasize the responsibility of witches and wizards as regards the use of their spells in a magical and non-magical world. Following his retirement from Hogwarts, he traveled to the Far East, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, taking notes on defensive magic and potions as he traversed the globe. First he wrote The Essential Defence Against the Dark Arts, which is still used today by English-speaking students throughout the world as a primer in defensive magic. Arsenius, the youngest of the three siblings, was the last to receive the owl inviting him to attend the prestigious school in 1803. During his time at Hogwarts, Arsenius excelled in defensive magic and charmwork, and despite what you might expect, never considered a career in potions. Upon his graduation, he began work for the Ministry on political matters, particularly surrounding upholding the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy and the persecution of those who sought to use magic to do harm to Muggle and non-magical beings.

In Professor Dumbledore’s office, you’ll find 900 memory vials. There’s over 950 filled potion jars lining the walls of the Potions Classroom. In Professor Dolores Umbridge’s pink office, you’ll find her collection of plates featuring various moving kittens. What about the costumes? The beautiful Hogwarts Express steam train, Hagrid joyfully waving you off at the end of the school year… Like, how am I drowning in nostalgia over events that didn’t even happen?

One of the bonus Harry Potter things to do in Oxford has to be to watch a game of Quidditch. You read that right, did you know that there is an Oxford Universities Quidditch Club?! A while later, Madam Pince overlooked the students at Study Hall and was seen talking to a female student. [28] It is unknown if this was a regular event that she chaperoned, or if it was a one-time event. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Chapter 15 ( The Unbreakable Vow) - "They waited, and a moment later the vulturelike countenance of Madam Pince appeared around the corner, her sunken cheeks, her skin like parchment, and her long hooked nose illuminated unflatteringly by the lamp she was carrying." At the start of this school year, Jacob's sibling asked Madam Pince for information on books about wandless magic in the library. She bluntly refused, as she informed that such magic was not routinely taught at Hogwarts, and therefore books on it where in the Restricted Section. After overhearing them and Corey Hayden discussing wandless magic, she angrily confronted the pair and gave them both detention in the kitchens as punishment. [25] And last but not least, pretty much all the other notable classrooms and offices not mentioned above were filmed on set at Leavesden Studios.
