The Meaco Arete One is a pretty powerful machine and it’s very quiet - plus it's Quiet Mark Certified - but it does hum. If we put it on a loose floorboard it gives off a low vibrating sound, but that’s probably more due to loose floorboards than the Meaco. We sleep in the room next door, and when the spare room door is closed you can’t hear it. Arete’s Night Mode is not just for night-time but anytime when you want the dehumidifier to be as quiet as possible. I suffer from hayfever, and when I left the dehumidifier running all night, I woke up and didn’t have any allergy symptoms at all. Cleaning the air in your home. Normally, you wouldn’t do this – the ideal humidity is usually 40% to 60% and within a few degrees of 50% is fine. However, if you’re trying to deal with mildew, mould or damp patches, then you’ll want to keep it a little lower. Meaco has made the Arete One easy to use. Via the control panel on the front, you can set the target relative humidity, between 40% and 70%. I’d aim for 50% in most cases, although a higher setting, such as 60%, can help reduce running costs. When running, it shows the current humidity level.
How does the Meaco Arete One perform day-to-day?
I tested it overnight in an unheated, external utility room that’s horribly prone to condensation, and it did a solid job of keeping the drips at bay. If you’re looking for a dehumidifier for a conservatory or garden room, this one should be up to the job for most of the year, although I’d still recommend a desiccant dehumidifier for use in colder areas and colder months. If you have problems with condensation, damp, mould or high humidity, Arete is the answer – whether for your home, office, wine cellar, garage, boat, caravan or workshop. Making Arete part of your home Arete has a large, 4.8 litre tank. Getting it out of the unit and carrying it to the sink or emptying point needed to be straightforward. So we investigated how other tanks are removed, and what is the best way, ergonomically, to manage the process. We know how important the noise level of a dehumidifier is to our customers and for that reason we have spent the last two years making Arete the quietest large dehumidifier on the market. The Arete One also has an automatic shut-off function when its water tank is full. At this point, the unit will beep and a red light will be displayed to alert you that the tank needs emptying. This is a useful feature that cheaper dehumidifiers tend not to have, and gives peace of mind that your home's flooring isn't going to be damaged by any overspill. There's also a small window on the front of the dehumidifier that shows you the current water levels.
The Arete One also offers Smart Laundry Mode for drying clothes; and Night Mode which switches the fan to low speed and disables both the lights and the audible 'tank full' alert beeps. Additionally, you can switch off the dehumidifier entirely and simply run it as a stand-alone air purifier, or you can choose to run the unit in continuous dehumidifying mode if you wish. Arete extracts water into an extra-large tank ensuring you wake up to clear windows each morning. The easy to use tank has a cover and carry handle with the option to pour the water away from both the left and right side, making life easy. It does a superb job of getting rid of excess moisture in the air, the automatic Smart Humidity Mode works perfectly, and in my tests, it reduced the moisture in my damp-prone rooms to the ideal humidity level in a very short period of time. The Arete One has a really nice user interface. It has just four buttons that are easy to get the hang of: The intuitive control panel makes operation simple for everyone allowing you to get the results you want with no confusion. The large 4.8L tank means you will need to empty the unit less often than with comparable units for added peace of mind. How loud is the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier?
Rated a Which? Best Buy, this is our most energy efficient dehumidifier range yet. Ultra-quiet and with a host of special features, living with Arete will be a breeze. The only dehumidifier I've found that does a better job at clothes drying is the Pro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Mode. This powerful 20L dehumidifier made fast work of drying wet washing in my tests, although, it's likely its increased extraction rate helped it in this regard. I haven't tested the 20L MeacoDry Arete One which would likely perform on a par.
