Instead, only the face buttons can be interchanged. You could change your Action or First Person to the Square button, but R1 and L1 are off the table. Since this menu is an overlay of the original game, the opportunity to add customization is sorely missed. The different launchers is weird, but there's a reasoning for the decision, because you can choose to buy the games individually, so they count as separate titles. Could've handled it slightly better on PS5 though, with them all occupying one space on the home screen, like how you could switch between PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game. Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel– A fully-voiced digital comic depicting the events of Metal Gear Solid through beautifully dynamic animated panels. There aren't any noticeable changes to the original games aside from this. As a result, each one begins with a content warning, noting that some of the game's "expressions and themes may be considered outdated" but "have been included without alteration to preserve the historical context in which the game was made and the creator’s original vision." While this doesn't point to any specific examples, it doesn't take long before Snake's hitting on the first two female characters you meet in the original Metal Gear Solid. There's also a plot point that centers on the shape of Meryl's posterior, leering shots of Eva's cleavage in Snake Eater, discussions of some heavy incest themes, and a scene where the president grabs Raiden's crotch unprompted to confirm his sex, to name just a few controversial and outdated moments. These instances are cringy, gratuitous, and sometimes uncomfortable, but I also think Konami's approach is the correct one, otherwise each game would have to be significantly altered.

The Volume 1 line-up features the original titles and beginning of the Metal Gear series, including the original versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid (which also includes VR Missions / Special Missions), and the HD Collection versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Snake’s Revenge– This ambitious Metal Gear sequel for Nintendo Entertainment System was developed with players outside of Japan in mind. New game elements were introduced to the series, including the now-mainstay searchlight mechanic. Given the power Konami has access to in the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and top-of-the-range PCs, this is somewhat of a disappointment. So much more could have been done — even just on the purely resolution and frame rate end — to make these three classics shine once more. They still do as the unique direction of Hideo Kojima is clear to see, but it's smeared somewhat by PS1 pixels and dated PS3 visuals. Konami has added the option to pause cutscenes in a roundabout way, but it only works in Metal Gear Solid. Pausing in the original 1998 release didn't provide you with any options, so Konami has added what's called a Stance Menu so you can view an online manual, change various controller settings, fiddle with the display area, and so on. The fact that accessing this menu pauses the game--even during cutscenes--is a useful side effect, but one that doesn't transfer to MGS 2 or MGS3.
