About this deal

As the story progresses and the intimacy between Lori and Edmund grows, he eventually asks her to go on an errand and she accepts. She sees his request as a test of her love and loyalty. Lori is just such a fanatic. Her obsession is with Edmund Cox, a man of sadistic cruelty who butchered more than twenty women. She’s gone so far as to forge a relationship with him, visiting him in prison and sending him letters on a regular basis. She will do anything to get close to him, so when he gives her a task, she eagerly accepts it.

We are bombarded with a romanticised depiction of a person with a brain injury, all cute childishness and blind loyalty, without as much of a hint at the grim reality of caring for an adult with those difficulties. I really loved this real life horror mixed with supernatural elements. This is a relentless, disgusting and horrid story about the darkness that lives inside of Lori. A girl, that will go to the extreme to get what she wants. didn't quite understand Lori's relationship with Edmund, unclear at the beginning (but maybe this was the point, although it seemed odd she was so obsessed with just "his mind") Lori, a woman of middle age, is obsessed with a convicted serial killer and rapist, Edmund Cox, known for brutally killing more than twenty girls, with whom she has been in touch through correspondence and prison visits. She develops and unhealthy relationship with the killer, and starts seeing him as a man of unparalleled masculinity and raw energy. I genuinely think the writer of this book hates women, because even though the book is centered around a horrific serial killer-the women are written way worse then the men. Lori ends up willingly giving herself to a serial killer she loves to be murdered-cause all she has craved in her entire life is a man’s love and validation/attention (yes I know she’s insane, but he made this her driving motive).OLDER SIS GO TO LORI " YO I SAW YOU WITH OUR BROTHER LET GET YOU HELP, BRO WONT GET HELP IF HE WONT SPEAK UP" LORI" NOO NOO WAH WAH * PUSHES HER SISTER OFF A CLIFF AND NOW SHE HAS THE MENTAL CAPACITY OF A CHILD AND USES SHOULDER CRUTCHES TO WALK * THE OLDER SISTER KILLS ONE OF THE UNNECESSARY CHARCTERS TO HELP LORI BECAUSE " LORI WANTS TO BANG HER BF (THE KILLER") AND LORI PROMISED SHED MAKE HER SISTER A MOH AT THE WEDDING IF HER AND HER SERIAL KILLER GET MARRIED After acquiring and binge-reading his latest novel, GONE TO SEE THE RIVER MAN, I can now confidently recommend the works of Kristopher Triana to anyone who will listen. This book has teeth and I’m not talking about a story that scratches at the surface and causes a little discomfort. When I say teeth, I mean words that penetrate beyond what is tolerable, inducing extreme, lasting pain. LORI CATCHES HER SISTER AND HER BF DAVID DOING THE "DEVILS TANGO" THAT AWAKENS SOMETHING IN HER TO GO TO HER BROTHERS ROOM AND "DEVILS TANGO WITH HIM"

The main scene with the ‘River Man’ is pin-drop perfect. Triana delivered such a stunning character awaiting in that cabin, that each sentence held weight. I was grinning from ear-to-ear as it was described and when the ‘River Man’ had a meeting with both Lori and her sister, I knew the ending was going to be vicious. I just read this yesterday and I'm a bit conflicted, and would love to hear your guys' thoughts. Overall, here is my review: As much as things are very strange about this quest to retrieve a key and bring it a man living at the end of the river, no further explanation, you do wonder what keeps her going, especially having to bring along her disabled sister who isn't equipped for the off the path terrain, but the book does have a good explanation, you just have to get there. In hopes of further developing a sentimental relationship with Cox, Lori agrees to help him find a person only known as the River Man, due to his whereabouts being located in Hollow River, hiding in the bushy woods of Killen. Lori must first go to the cabin of Cox, and find a particular key that she must take to the River Man. While she prepares for the trip, her little sister, Abby, who suffers from brain damage and catatonic episodes, begs her to bring her along the trip to the river. Lori accepts reluctantly, and the two embark to the woods, in hopes of finding this mysterious individual of great influence that Cox seems to deem as very important.

Lori is just such a fanatic. Her obsession is with Edmund Cox, a man of sadistic cruelty who butchered more than 20 women. She’s gone so far as to forge a relationship with him, visiting him in prison and sending him letters on a regular basis. She will do anything to get close to him, so when he gives her a task, she eagerly accepts it. I thought the setting could save it; deep forests with oldie blues overtones that, in other works (namely, Christopher Buehlman's Those Across the River) are written far better than here. The story is built upon two split narratives around 25 years apart, the focus of both is Lori, who is just about to turn 40 in the present-day story. Lori has a rather morbid hobby, she writes to serial killers and has an impressive collection of letters from previous correspondences. When the story begins, she is on the way to prison to meet Edmund Cox. Lori is in love with Edmund, even though she knows he has tortured and killed many women, with a special fondness for those from the Far East. As the story unfolds, some of the letters, written by both Lori and Edmund, are dropped into the story. When the pair meet, Edmund gives Lori a mission, or a test, and this lies at the dark core of Gone to See the River Man.

LORI SO DESPERATE FOR P3N1S AND LOVE SHES ATTACHES HERSELF TO A SERIAL KILLER SHE MET THROUGH PENPAL CRAP AND GO TO SEE THE RIVER MAN BECAUSE THE BF TOLD HER TO RETURN A KEY. HER SISTER " NOOOO DONT WEAVE ME NOOO SISSY DONT WEAVE ME LIKE PETEY (BROTHER) DID* LORI IS FORCED TO TAKE HER SISTER ALONG Steve Stred is the author of a number of novels, novellas and collections. He has appeared in anthologies with some of Horror’s heaviest hitters. What I liked: Triana is a Splatterpunk Award winner writing, so you know immediately that things will not be pretty. And while there are moments of beauty, sentences showing true love between characters, ‘Gone to See the River Man’ is at its core a story covered in rust and rot. This is the story of a woman named Lori who has an unhealthy infatuation with a prison inmate named, Edmund. He’s not your garden variety “one and done” murderer. Edmund did unspeakable things to his female victims. It’s inconceivable why our protagonist Lori is so enamored with him. This is my first read from Triana but definitely not my last. Triana is a skilled writer and I really enjoyed his writing style. The pace is impeccable. His writing is detailed and dark but at the same time beautiful and heartbreaking. I loved how he was building up the story until the dreadful end. I had to know why the main character was so obsessed with a serial killer rapist. I thought that including the letters between Lori and Edmund was a nice touch. You got to see how their relationship evolved. I found the end to be perfect for the story. It was like closing the circle and finding peace in a way. LORI AND HER BROTHER KEEP DEVILS TANGOING. HE WANTS TO STOP, SHE FORCES HIM TO CONTINUE AND THREATS TO TELL THEIR PARENTS. THE BROTHER SHUTS DOWN MENTAL * NO EATING NOTHING COMPLETELY WITHDRAWS FROM LIFE* Lori has made a connection with a repugnant prisoner called Edmund, and the true, sordid nature of their relationship is revealed through a series of letters interspersed throughout the chapters. He takes advantage of the extremely unhealthy obsession she has forged with him by assigning her a seemingly dangerous quest: to retrieve a specific item and deliver it to a mysterious character known only as The River Man. DEXTER DUDE ESCAPE PRISON, LORI GIDDY HER KILLER BF IS FREE. SHE FINDS HIM NAKED WITH ANOTHER GIRLS HEAD ON HIS JUNK ( DONT NEED TO SAY WHAT HAPPENED THERE SO) HE SAY COME HERE , SHE GOES, GETS NAKED, HE GRABS A KNIFE ( A CLEAN ONE CAUSE YOU KNOW JUST BECAUSE HES A KILLER DOESNT MEAN CHIVALRY IS DEAD YOU KNOW?)

I CAN NOT BELIEVE I WASTED PRECIOUS TIME ON THIS BOOK. AND I KNEW IT GOING IN THAT IT MIGHT BE A LET DOWN SO I ACTIVELY LOOKED FOR SPOILERS. AND NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO EVEN DO THAT CORRECTLY SO FOR THOSE WHO MAY GO INTO THIS AND ARE OVERLY BORED AND WANT PROPER SPOILERS. YOUVE COME TO THE RIGHT GIRL, CAUSE I HAVE TIME TODAY His fiction has appeared in countless magazines and anthologies and has been translated into multiple languages, drawing praise from Publisher's Weekly, Cemetery Dance, Rue Morgue, Scream, The Ginger Nuts of Horror and others. I just finished this book a couple hours ago and at first I couldn’t figure out why I was so disturbed. Because, yes, the content is disturbing but it’s nothing I haven’t read before. And then I realized it was written by a man and the puzzle pieces started coming together.
