About this deal

LG hasn’t shown signs of slowing down on the gaming front, bringing Google Stadia to its complement of cloud gaming services in 2021 and adding Nvidia’s GeForce NOW in 2022. In the 1st year of the warranty, panel, parts, and labor costs are covered. In the 2nd - 5th year of the warranty, only panels are covered, and labor will be charged. What’s more, since the extra brightness is delivered on the factory sample without fading colours, there’s actually also a boost to colour volume and vibrancy over the C2 and last year’s G1. To be clear, this applies across all of the OLED65G2’s picture presets, including the Cinema, Cinema Home and Filmmaker Mode options, and makes pictures look more authentic and realistic. In other words, there’s nothing forced about any of the OLED65G2’s brightness and colour enhancements.

Input lag with 1080p/60Hz feeds in the set’s Game preset is just 9.4ms, making it next to impossible to blame the TV for any of your embarrassing Call Of Duty deaths. Although it’s still not up there with the best TV sound performers, the G2 OLED is a handy improvement sonically over the past few LG TV generations. Drop down to standard definition and praise is, of course, more qualified; but the G2 does well with what it’s given. Edge definition of objects isn’t the strongest, a segment during Jeremy Vine reveals jagged edges to a monitor screen, and while sharpness and detail levels drop, colours are portrayed in a convincing manner. The LG OLED G2 is powered by webOS, LG's smart platform that supports a wide range of the top streaming services, including Freeview Play, NOW, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and more, while making browsing and searching for things to watch a breeze, even with hands-free voice control. The LG Magic Remote is used to handle the smart platform, and you can also use the LG G2's built-in Google Assistant and Alexa to control your smart home.Voice Control features may not be available in all languages and dialects. Refer to source material. ThinQ TV control voice commands are supported.

The G2 OLED’s pricing makes it very much a premium TV range, sitting in the same ballpark as the mini LED-based Samsung QN95B and OLED-based Sony A90J/A80K series. LG’s new Alpha 9 Gen 5 process delivers a few extra improvements to LG’s picture quality for good measure. Upscaling of sub-4K sources is much better, for one thing. LG has actually removed a step from its upscaling system after finding that it could add noise to upscaled pictures, and the results really do look remarkably more polished and sharp. There’s no support for the HDR10+ mode developed as a rival for Dolby Vision, either, and as always when we’re talking about OLED technology, we’re duty bound to point out that some top-price LCD TVs - including a few of LG’s own models - can reach brightness levels much higher than that achieved by even the G2. For instance, while the OLED65G2 manages to hit around 1000 nits in its Vivid mode (up around 15% on LG’s previous LG OLEDs), Samsung’s mini LED 65QN95B gets up close to 3000 nits in its Dynamic preset. Beneath that is the Trending Now bar, app list, a row of physical/digital inputs and smart connections, live TV and Now Streaming; the latter collates content from iPlayer, Apple TV, All 4, YouTube, Rakuten TV and ITV Hub. I prefer this approach over 2021’s webOS, since it’s more focused instead of serving content from every app, which I found overwhelming. Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos bring awe-inspiring drama to every genre, delivering full audio-visual immersion with stunning colour and contrast, as well as 3D surround sound. The OLED65G2 gives us our first look at the latest version of LG’s webOS smart interface. Now called webOS 22, reflecting the year of its ‘birth’, there are four main new features to mention. First, the OLED65G2’s additional heat sink really does lead to a noticeable and welcome brightness boost over the C2 – despite the C2’s pictures themselves delivering a palpable brightness enhancement over the pictures of 2021’s C1. Second, unlike the early demo units, the finished OLED65G2 delivers its brightness enhancements without washing out the colours. The first is support for multiple profiles, so different members of your household can log in and get access to their own dedicated customised home screen and user profile. The color gamut of 97% DCI-P3 and 70% Rec.2020 is a top result for OLED models. Together with the very high brightness, this also gives a boost to its color volume.

The system being used to remove this noise can sometimes scrub a touch of grain out of grainy sources. However, the resulting image still feels fairly 4K-like, and appears without lag or blur. And honestly we’d rather sacrifice a smidge of source grain in return for not having to worry about exaggerated grain, double edging, a gauzy effect over the picture, or other common upscaling problems. Motion handling is also much more sophisticated, with both LG’s Cinematic Movement and default Natural motion settings now able to gently massage away excess judder while generating far fewer distracting unwanted processing ‘glitches’. Please note: Failure to produce the card and relevant ID means we are unable to release goods on collection. The webOS interface and remote continue as is from 2021. The top area of the homescreen has been rejigged with the most recent input added (potentially to make you notice the LG Account sign-up area).

This item is designed to be wall mounted. Original wall mounting kit is NOT supplied. Otherwise pristine, with magic remote***
