About this deal

With the included USB-C cable, you’ll be able to connect directly to an iPad Pro, a G-RAID® drive, or your computer* to offload and transfer your media fast.

Speed wise, we could only extract a max video read speed of 223MB/s and 198MB/s write rate from our UHS-II SD card - not awful, but some way shot of some other readers we've tested. Image transfer performance is worse still, with 152MB/s read and 98MB/s write speeds being slower than average. This card reader sports the classic combo of SD and CompactFlash slots, both being the fastest of their type - UHS-II, and UDMA 7. You can use both simultaneously, and the case’s design means a card of each type can be stored inside the reader, protected by a hinged rubber door that closes around them. The 90cm USB Type-A lead is hardwired to the reader, so while you won’t lose it, it can be slightly awkward for transportation, and you’ll need an adapter to connect this reader to a laptop like the current MacBook Pro. On top of that, it uses a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C interface. And it comes with both USB Type-C and USB Type-A connectors. They work together to deliver astonishing data transfer speeds of up to 1250 Mbps.People have a few common questions when deciding which SD card reader is best for them. Let’s answer those questions now.

An SD card reader is often called a memory or camera card reader. It’s a device that reads, writes, and transfers files directly from your digital camera‘s memory card to your laptop, tablet, or phone.

Thank you!

The premium aluminum enclosure of the reader helps keep your cards cool to help prevent overheating while you offload your media. The SanDisk Professional PRO-READER is a premium device. It’s built by professionals and designed for professionals. So a lot of extra thought went into making it. It has high-end features that increase workflow and make sure your data stays safe no matter what. Looking at the features, due to the size means you’re only going to be fitting a micro SD card into this thing which is a downside for some individuals who are still using legacy memory cards but with the devices of today almost exclusively using micro SD cards as their expandable storage, it’s a little less likely you’re going to run into the need for a number of different slot formats. It also uses USB 3.0 tech, making it fast both in terms of read and transfer speeds. UHS-II SD cards are faster, and all the readers here are compatible. UHS-I card readers will read UHS-II cards, just slower. One notable feature worth highlighting is the aluminum enclosure. It pulls heat and prevents overheating during periods of intense use.

The ProGrade Digital is the best of all memory card readers. It boasts one CFexpress Type B slot and one UHS-II SDXC slot. These are the two most common camera card formats used by DSLR and mirrorless cameras. If you’re looking for an SD card reader that has the speeds to keep up with your impatience, this Kingston SD card reader is the one to go for. Like the rest of the selections on show, it has USB 3.0 architecture, allowing for up to 5.0Gb/s transfer speeds but where it differs is the minimal loss of speeds in relation to how fast your SD card can go. With other options out there, when your SD card says that it supports up to 90mb/s read/write speeds, you might only get half of that on poor quality SD card readers. However, with this Kingston variant, you’ll lose little to no speeds meaning the internals are of high quality. If you buy a product through one of our referral links we will earn a commission (without costing you anything). One important thing to note is that the workflow station does need external power. This makes it ideal for people who always work from the same location.
