About this deal

Notably, the Top 10 is a mix of high and low to mid offerings, suggesting little direct correlation between speed and spin. The urethane cover provides a soft, responsive touch, while the ionomer mantle and resilient core work in tandem to optimize energy transfer and reduce spin on longer shots. Simultaneously, the ionomer mantle and resilient core ensure the ball retains adequate distance potential, making it a well-rounded option for golfers of various skill levels.

We’ve discussed that there is a strong correlation between ball speed and compression (the firmness of a golf ball). When the collision between club and ball occurs at high speed as it does with a driver, a softer ball is a slower ball. The comments here on refurbished balls (“we highly recommend avoiding refurbished”) are useless. It’s like a teenage male going on one date with a single girl when he was 14 and the same girl again on a break from college and extrapolating the experiences to all women – it’sNotably, as speed declines, particularly with iron shots, low-compression balls can be a touch faster than firmer ones. Soft is still slow but, under those conditions, it’s the comparably softer covers and mantles of high compression balls that explain the speed differences. Both the VICE Pro and Pro Plus use an “extra-thin cast urethane cover for maximum feel and short game spin.” In my launch monitor testing, I found that both are comfortably in the expected range of other Tour-style balls for wedge spin. The first aspect to examine when comparing the Vice Pro and Pro Plus is their respective construction. It’s telling that at all three speeds off both driver and irons and with the wedge, the lowest spinning balls were low-compression offerings. But honestly? I’m not a good enough golfer to be the judge of that. So I recruited Zach from The DIY Golfer to help do a proper Vice Pro Plus vs ProV1x comparison.

Without mincing words, the Vice Pro and Pro Plus are high-quality golf balls with unique performance characteristics that cater to all golfers. Designed for golfers who demand distance and control, the Vice Pro Plus is a four-piece golf ball that excels in challenging conditions. For slower swing speed players, higher spin on iron shots is often desirable so, while low-compression balls can provide more distance, the low-spin properties may not be ideal.Over the last couple years both the Vice Pro Plus as well as the Titleist ProV1x have gotten a littlemore expensive. But the Vice Balls still represent a pretty insane value. prices per dozen

Chances are you have an adjustable driver so once you’ve found the ball the performs best through the rest of the bag, take advantage of the driver’s adjustability and tune it to fit the ball. The absence of the 100-compression Callaway Chrome Soft X LS from the top of this group is perhaps surprising, though the higher-spinning Chrome Soft X made the list. As iron speeds drop into the mid-range of our test, the low-compression balls are faster. Soft is still slow but context matters. The softer outer layers of the high-compression (firm core) golf balls are responsible for a modest speed deficit while the lower-compression balls gain speed because of the firmer covers and mantles. Like I said before, my opinion is coming from a mid handicap point of view and when I talk about control & forgiveness I’m talking about how good the ball was at staying in the fairway and not shooting off three holes over.

Durability In our first test, we had two models scuff severely during the wedge portion of our test. This year, we didn’t note any significant durability issues, nothing more than a modest paint scuff. How did I like them? The Vice Pro Plus golf balls performed really well for me and I found them pretty similar to the ProV1x balls from Titleist. The distance was just as long as some of the higher-end balls and they didn’t launch as high (which some lower handicaps will like). The only downside is that you have to buy in bulk to get them cheap and the durability isn’t as good as it should be. Please comment on the statistical significance of your data. If you can provide a link to the raw data I would even be happy to do a statistical analysis of yhe testing and privately provide you with the results. The Pro Plus features a lower, more penetrating ball flight, making it advantageous in windy situations.
