About this deal

I’d classify this fragrance as a light barbershop amber. It’s a dandy-esque fragrance that evokes the image of a man with delicate, porcelain features and an annoyingly-suave sense of style. It smells fresh, with zesty bergamot and cooling geranium. Orange blossom, vetiver, amber and sandalwood create a velvet-like plushness that is cashmere in texture and pale violet in colour. It’s truly beautiful and serves a reminder that very few fashion brands do things quite as breathtaking as Prada. The first session at the Congress lasted a beaten eight hours. She was exhausted and just wanted to go to the hotel and take a bath and relax. Yves stood by the car and waited for her. He opened the car door and she boarded. The car radio played jazz music. But not the fast and nervous variant. No, it was that soft, warm, very soulful jazz. He started the limousine and asked: Should I turn off the music or raise the cutting disc,...Madame? She just answers, "No, no... leave everything as it is! But everything was not as it is! Yves smelled different somehow. Although still somehow herby-fresh and it was still his eau de toilette, but it had become much, much deeper and warmer around him. It seemed as if he had aged by several years in the past time. But in a positive sense. A smoky-herb mineral oak moss filled the car and a delicate tobacco scent lay in the air and mixed with the smell of the leather. Or was it in his perfume, too? A spicy-warm and very masculine aura now emanated from him. At that moment she felt incredibly well taken care of in the car and in his presence. The casualness and sovereignty that Yves radiated from this moment was very impressive and protective. She had been very wrong about his scent! Super high quality and very masculine in a classic Fougère way, but with a freshness that puts it apart from the other fougère offerings out there. I don't know why YSL decided to discontinued it but probably it didn't well in sales. In 2011 they re-lauched it in a different bottle but the formula changed and it seemed somewhat flat and watered down. I think it's now discontinued again or only available in some places. Pasha is a great performer and sits beautifully in the colder months of the years. Oakmoss and mint, give it a dry freshness, and then the caraway for some added spice. The scent warms up, while retaining its green outdoorsy depth, and the coolness of the mint. This one has been reformulated over the years, so, it probably won’t exactly smell how it used to be. Not too much of a problem, if you’re new to it. Honestly, it still has plenty of life and I have to say that I find it pretty enjoyable.

For more than fifteen years, Jean-François Latty was part of the Téo Cabanel adventure, imbuing every fragrance of the brand with his style. Among these, we will always remember Oha, Alahine, or Lace Garden, just to name a few. This, dear reader, I like to refer as my ‘scent snobbery’ phase and it’s one many of us go through. You see, when the door to the rabbit hole of perfume is opened, one is overwhelmed by an overflowing sweet shop of scent, and it’s hard not to get caught up in the excitement of wearing things that the hoi polloi haven’t even heard of. Unfortunately my bottle is empty now and there is probably no affordable replacement for this old vintage version. This winter has been decidedly cruel for the world of perfume. After the sad news of the death of perfumer and creator Vero Kern on December 18, 2018, we now heard of the passing of Jean-François Latty. Born in Grasse, Jean-François Latty had his professional training at Ecole Roure, and worked first in the Parisian and then the American subsidiaries of this composing company (Roure was joined with Givaudan to Givaudan-Roure in 1991). He joined IFF in 1970, where he composed with colleague Raymond Chaillan the famous perfume Givenchy III.I approached Prestige with some trepidation, I'm not a fan of 90's fresh fougeres, particularly ozonic, aquatic, fruity "fresh" ones such as Live Jazz for example and I passed over quite a few opportunities to have it join the collection because of that. Thankfully no aqua here and I really enjoyed a test run of Prestige. What we have here is a fougere that was way ahead of its time as it is not at all dissimilar in feel to the kind that's been put out for a number of years by niche houses such as L'Art de la Guerre or Fou d'Absinthe, pretty successful attempts to modernize the ol' fougere with different uncommon top notes and moss replacement. But what makes this a real winner for me is that the playful notes are grounded in now banned true naturals in the base something that has always been a let down for me in the two previously mentioned scents for example. I'm not exactly sure what I'm smelling with this one as the progression through the notes is definitely unique (minty tobacco?), but with a name like Prestige, it must be some form of high quality art. Performance for both fragrances are very close and will last for the better part of 6-8 hours. L’Homme Ideal Cool boasts coolness in the form of a prominent mint accord that is sweet and bracing. This mingles excitedly with bergamot and orange, which creates a tart, fizzy freshness. Neroli, a staple of the classic Eau de Cologne, is given volume and lift by a swooping aquatic accord, together creating an energetic, weightless quality as accents of almond, vetiver and patchouli bring the signature core of the original into play. It’s THE perfect scent for summer 2019, especially if you’re the kind of guy who knows how to have a good time… Anyway, if you like fougère fragrances but want something slightly different and high quality, try to grab a bottle of this beauty. It's really fascinating how a fougère appears to be familiar but in the same time different and modern. One of my favourite fougères and a classic that would stood the test of time if L'Oréal didn't had decided to reformulate it.

With Jazz, I get 9-10 hours of performance, so if you want a near match with Tsar that gives you what you pay for…this is a great choice. My Full Review This combined with the lavender, creates a very nice mix, with its more masculine features occupying the base. Since jazz in this version is only available at moon prices, I will guard it like the apple of my eye, but it will surely become a victim of its genius and I cannot control myself in the frequency of its use. I will get the current Jazz soon and hope that he doesn't "stink" too much against his father.

In Gentlewoman, the neroli and orange blossom notes are dialled-up to a riotous 9. They become powdery and feminine, while notes of lavender and coumarin ground them into masculine territory. Musk makes the whole thing large and diffusive, grabbing attention with a big, white cloud. Is it a cologne? Is it a fougere? Is it for men or is it for women? Does that matter? My advice: don’t try to define it, just enjoy the ride and the fact that you will leave everybody guessing. The sillage is pretty strong at first, but it does become more moderate for the rest of the wear. It is noticeable, but not completely in your face, with its power. It’s versatile for many other situations, as it isn’t likely to offend or be obtrusive when wearing it. Very solid all around. After 17 years of loyal service, he joined fragrance and flavor producer Takasago, where he created L'Eau Dynamisante and YSL Jazz.

As it moves along, Jazz EDT, moves more into a floral clean and somewhat sweet arena. Artemisia, geranium, with some very light amber and tonka bean give it a smoother appeal. The final result is a dry, fresh, green floral/spice blend, that is fairly barbershop in its essence. Jazz is a great fougere example, that is balanced, and still retains a mass appeal. There’s a nice mossy finish towards the end or at least the impression of moss, anyway. YSL Jazz and Jazz Prestige remind me of another combo I have in my wardrobe - Ralph Lauren Polo Green and Polo Crest.Though not a powerhouse, the longevity, is actually very good on my skin. During testing, I was able to get 9-10 hours of wear from this YSL cologne, without any issue. I was actually surprised that a newer batch, could still bring it with the performance. I could imagine using jazz as a daily perfume for any occasion. However, it does particularly well due to its fresh, soapy character as a freshness booster directly after showering.
