About this deal

The Glenlivet Spectra. Image via Margarett Waterbury (The Whiskey Wash) Tasting Notes: The Glenlivet Spectra no. 1 Oh, SPOILER ALERT: if you don’t want to know anything about the whiskies, jump to the bottom of the post and ignore my tasting notes. The Glenlivet Spectra Alan Winchester explained that, “Given the mysterious nature of the Glenlivet Spectra, we aimed to ensure each flavor was distinct and recognizable. I hope whisky lovers enjoy exploring the wide spectrum of flavours within the Glenlivet Spectra, as much as we enjoyed crafting them”. Complete tasting notes and cask details will be revealed later this year, but you’ve still got plenty of time to try the whiskies and work out the mystery for yourself. The Spectra experience feels tailor-made for a pandemic. Even if you are totally alone, it makes for a convincing replica of drinking with a strange, somewhat demanding friend. The male voice actor chosen to narrate the “multimedia experience” has the mildest touch of brogue and otherworldly kind of serenity, kind of like a Scottish Brian Eno. I liked him immediately, complying happily with his directions to use headphones for the best experience, and hoping that my decision to split a set of airpods with my husband wouldn’t ruin whatever Brian had in store. We poured our whiskies, huddled around the iPhone like moths to a cold, cold flame, and tapped the button for Spectra No. 1. Through the gamified experience, whisky drinkers will be given cryptic hints and challenged to put their tasting abilities to the test as they seek to determine what flavour profiles make each bottle unique. At the end of each tasting, users are given a personalised scorecard showing how close they are to decoding each of the three mysterious single malts.

The man behind that famed dram was George Smith, a tenant farmer on land belonging to Alexander Gordon, Duke of Gordon. The Duke, not surprisingly, was a great advocate for reforming the draconian legislation around distilling so that he could commercialise it. 1823 saw the passing of the Excise Act which liberalised distilling but also provided more resources and power to excise officers. One of the first people to take advantage of the new laws was George Smith who built a new distillery at Glenlivet in the Highlands on what was once a farm distillery called Upper Drummin.Simon Wittenberg takes a look at The Glenlivet’s new limited trio of single malt Scotch whiskies that leaves people guessing… If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Description: A Welsh distillery that is often overlooked, Da Mhile has released its first single malt, an organic-certified whisky named after the shield of one of its first patrons, Chris Phillips. The whisky is sourced from a single oloroso sherry cask. Normally when we write about new releases from well-known distilleries, it’s all about the cask. Our customers want to know as much as possible about how their whisky has been aged: Were the casks first fill or refill? Were they made with European or American oak? What did the casks hold before? Bourbon? Rum? Marsala? Sherry? What kind of sherry? From which bodega? Were they recharred? And most importantly, how long did the whisky spend in barrel? Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise.

In just two years after the act, the number of licensed distilleries doubled and legal whisky production rose from two million to six million gallons a year. Glenlivet was so prestigious that it gave its name to the whole region, now known as Speyside. To help preserve his brand, George Smith’s son, John Gordon Smith, applied for sole rights to the name, which were granted in 1884 but allowed other producers to hyphenate it with their own names eg. Glenfarclas-Glenlivet, which is still seen today, though very rarely. Which is why the original is known grandly as THE Glenlivet to differentiate itself from all those hyphenated Glenlivets. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Any new functionalities, tools and features shall be part of and governed by the Terms from the moment they are launched and/or available. Further, we reserve the right to modify, change, discontinue the Service, add or remove features, update the Service, change its appearance, temporarily and permanently, at any time, in whole or any part thereof. Each bottle in the trio reinterprets The Glenlivet’s signature smooth and fruity style, and gives you the chance to engage with their interactive tasting experience. Scan the QR code on the box to access selected flavor profiles and put your palate to the test, comparing your tasting ability to that of the experts. The reason for using this form is because the three 20cl bottles are housed in separate compartments (numbered one to three), that each has triangular-shaped magnetic lids (the middle section is an inverted triangle to make it all work together).
