About this deal

Last but not least are the Christmas lights, which employ yet another new technique using bulbs instead of studs. Winter Village sets have evolved to be more than a standard LEGO offering. Just like the Modular Buildings, their annual release have become highly anticipated within the more adult LEGO community. So much so that this year LEGO have included the Winter Village set in their 18+ category, you can expect the next Modular in January to be an 18+ set too. My favorite Winter Village set I've built is set 10254-1 Holiday Train, but there's one I don't have that I'd love to get my hands on, set 10235-1 Village Market. The interiors are tiny, but they managed to squeeze in some furniture, and a sitting area, which is a great use of what little space they had. Last year, in my review of set Gingerbread House, I spoke a little about Winter Village sets and Christmas LEGO in general. You can also read other WInter Village / Christmas articles using the links below.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...Obviously I'm talking about the release of the next Winter Village set. The Winter Village sets are probably the biggest factor for coming out of my dark ages. I tend to like the more realistic ones so for a second year in a row I'm uncertain on how keen I am on the fantasy subject matter. Last year's Gingerbread House won me over, let's see if the Elf Club House can do the same (spoiler alert, my Christmas addiction probably means it will!) Contents: The Set The breakfast nook is cute, but in action it again makes you question the ergonomics of the club house. Since the elf minifigures have short, non-articulated legs, they have to stand on the chairs instead of sitting. That’s an understandable compromise, but due to the height of the table, plates, and mug, you have to raise the figures arms to almost comical heights to get them to fit into the space. And just forget trying to get two elves to have a bite at the same time. You’re probably better off just putting all the elves in other areas of the club house when you display things.

Specifications

The Elf Clubhouse joins 2014’s Santa’s Workshop and last year’s Gingerbread House as a fantasy-themed expansion of LEGO’s beloved Winter Village theme, which is a personal favourite of mine. This year’s design is a breath of fresh air, and I love the use of 2 x 1 cutout wedges to give the tree its angled shape and sense of texture. This is a minor, minor gripe, and has been a problem forever, but I really dislike the colour bleeding from the Elf hat onto their ears. The Elf Club House is a fun little set, that expands on the Winter Village by providing a base of operations and accommodation for Santa’s hardworking Elves.

Elf Club House will be available from LEGO.com on 23 September onwards from LEGO.com or your local LEGO store. The use of the LEGO Movie 2 stars as the umm, star that adorns the tip of the Christmas tree is also a great choice, although it seems a teensy bit oversized for the tree. What do you think of the 2020 Winter Village set? Do you think it’s a great addition to the Winter Village and does it fit in well with the other buildings? It does have its own unique style, with the tall roof, which has a sharper angle, and two windows that emerge out each side.
