About this deal

The Oculus Rift accomplishes this using a pair of OLED screens that displays two images side by side, one for each eye. A set of lenses is placed on top of the panels, focusing and reshaping the picture and creating a stereoscopic 3D image. Each display offers 2,160 x 1200 resolution, which works out to offer 1080p resolution per eye. There's also a 110-degree field of view and 90 Hz refresh rate. But the Pico 4 pulls ahead in pretty much every other regard. It offers 8GB RAM, a display that’s 2,160 x 2,160 pixels per eye, and uses a 5300mAh battery; by comparison, the Oculus Quest 2 only has 6GB RAM, 1832 × 1920 pixels per eye, and a 3,640 mAh battery. Oculus recommends wiping the lenses down with a dry optical lens microfiber cloth, starting from the center of the lens and wiping gently in a circular motion outward. Facebook says alcohol-based wipes and cleaners are not recommended for use on the lenses, as they can lead to damage. The big benefit of the Rift S is its store. It uses the PC-based Oculus Store, which has had a few years to build up an impressive library of games and apps. There are lots of compelling experiences to try here, including a more feature-complete and potentially moddable version of Beat Saber. If the Oculus Store isn't enough, you can also browse SteamVR for even more games (though be prepared to wrestle with settings to get the two platforms to work with each other). However, with Oculus Link, all of those options are available on the Quest 2, as well.

The charging stand from AMVR for the Meta Quest 2 has a slightly unique design. You get a single pedestal attached to a base which then branches out to give you slots to hang the controllers too. The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is the Quest’s first AAA single-player game. This herculean effort combines a lengthy campaign, satisfying physics and realistic environments for an immersive horror experience. You’ll sneak, shoot and scavenge your way through a zombie-filled New Orleans with every major choice you make resulting in equally hefty consequences. The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners strikes a balance of immersion and entertainment desperately missing from the Quest store right now. Next to the PC-exclusive Half-Life: Alyx, this is the best AAA VR campaign around. If you have a VR-ready PC and want to use Oculus Link with a stable wired connection, you’ll need the right type of cable. Controller grips provide some extra protection for your Touch controllers. The grips pictured above are by Kiwi and actually replace Touch controller’s battery cover, forming a shell that sits across the face of the controller. Not only does this give you added protection, but it also adds on grips straps akin to those on the Valve Index controllers, so you can keep your controllers attached without gripping them the entire time. The Oculus Rift S improves on the previous Rift headset with a sharper screen and a camera array that doesn't require external sensors. Features overcharge protection, overload protection, and over current protection to safely charge your devices. Sometimes you need a break from the virtual violence. That’s where Crytek’s VR game The Climb comes in. The developer that gave us Far Cry and Crysis created a stellar free-climbing simulator that trades in the pews of firearms for audible "oh wows" from its players. Realistically rendered environments courtesy of CRYENGINE gives you the thrill of hanging off cliffs from the Alps to the American Southwest.

Even though it’s now past its 10-year anniversary, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still very much a game you should try in virtual reality. You’ll need to connect the Meta Quest 2 to a gaming PC or laptop, albeit not a hugely powerful one given the game’s age. And it’s not superbly optimized for cutting-edge VR use. However, Skyrim VR basically lets you step into a virtual country with a fantasy and Nordic flavor. Resident Evil 4 VR immerses you in the classic action horror game, but only on the Quest 2 (Image credit: Capcom / Oculus) Conclusion The most significant feature difference is that – thanks to its 16MP RGB camera – the Pico 4 offers full-color passthrough. That means that the headset can show you a video feed of the real world around you that’s in full color, whereas the Quest 2 can only show it to you in grayscale. This allows developers to use the Pico 4 headset to deliver much more realistic and immersive AR experiences than what you can get on the Quest 2. All VR headsets have a fairly similar design; a display covers your eyes and is attached to your head via straps. But within those parameters, two headsets can still look fairly different. If you have a permanent spot in your house for your Quest 2, you’re going to need something to put it on. We’re talking Quest 2 exclusive games like Resident Evil 4, which is currently available, in addition to hotly anticipated games like Ghostbusters VR, the classic hit GTA San Andreas VR, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed VR. These last few are scheduled to launch sometime in the near future, but only on Meta’s hardware.
