The problem with this helmet is the quality of the included Bluetooth features. Schuberth spent so much time on the helmet, it forgot about the communication system. The speakers are underpowered, the microphone is far away from your mouth, and there are only two buttons for controlling everything. Also, get ready to learn Morse code because there's no logic to the button push sequences required to perform the various functions. Shoei Glamster | The Glamster combines modern tech with a distinctly slim, retro style. Ventilation is limited, and the visor proved a little clunky, but if the looks appeal, it could be a good choice. But if you’re a touring rider who’s often on the road for days at a time, battery life might be a much more important factor in your decision. Think about how you’ll use the device when figuring out how much extra battery life is worth to you. The Sena Savage on review here is an open-face helmet with a built-in Bluetooth intercom. I’ve been wearing it while riding several bikes, including the Kawasaki Vesys 1000 and Honda MSX125, but it’s best suited to custom, cruiser and street machines… An open-face, or ‘jet’ helmet is great in the summer, and the favourite of many custom, cruiser and even trail-bike riders, but it has no protection on the front so your face is vulnerable to stones and bugs (you’d be surprised how much a bee can hurt at 70mph). You do also need to be aware that in a crash, an open-face lid is far less protective than the other options. Try holding the helmet still while you move your head – if you can turn your head or tip it up and down to any significant degree, the lid’s too big or the wrong shape for you; a very large proportion of bikers own helmets that are too large for them. As the interior naturally compresses during use, those helmets will get noisier, less comfortable and less safe.Finally, Bell’s Custom 500 has that low-profile classic look in spades – and it’ll fit most bluetooth sets too. It’s available in fibre or carbon shells and is the original classic open face helmet. It’s not their most technologically advanced shell construction – that’s their AIM+ shells. But it is a solid helmet shell material, evidenced by other AIM helmets scoring pretty well when SHARP tests them. The higher the number of sizes used the more secure and accurate the fit as opposed to simply adding extra padding for smaller heads and less for larger heads. Or what about the Sena Savage? It’s a fibreglass open face helmet that comes with a bluetooth communicator pre-installed. OK it’s a reasonably basic bluetooth, but most owners find it’s fine. And it’s a decent wodge cheaper than the J-Cruise II. Mind you, you’d have to make do with a snap on visor. Shoei JO Hawker Bluetooth has been available for motorcyclists for a while. Attach the device to your helmet, run some wiring and speakers inside, and you have intercom, music, and GPS availability while you ride. But while some helmets are designed to accept the extra gear, not all are. There’s no way to really know until you try them, and experimenting can get expensive. Also, adding weight to your helmet where it wasn’t designed to be will get tiring after a long ride. The solution is a Bluetooth motorcycle helmet. That is until you get up to highway speeds when it can be difficult to hear and be heard. But slow it down a bit and it’s a good system. MusicWeight is a strong point for most open face helmets, and despite having the extra weight of electronic gubbins, the Sena Savage is no exception. Most owners say it’s a lightweight helmet and the figures prove it: it weighs around 1.1Kg (2.4lbs) which is really light compared to most other types of helmet. White Savage with long peak fitted

Double-D is the choice of racers and gives a very secure fit every time you put the lid on, with a really simple mechanism, but it’s hard to use if you have your gloves on. It’s important to note that it will not be in any way illegal to wear a helmet certified to the older ECE 22.05 standard, though it continues to be the case that ONLY helmets certified to ECE 22.05 or ECE 22.06 are legal to wear in the UK. Those certified only to DOT and/or SNELL, for instance, are not legal.
