About this deal

The first is to be the youngest leading ballerina in her academy. She will need unwavering dedication. No time for men. Unfortunately, her heart didn't get the memo, because her second secret want. . . is Max Butcher. What follows is the unexpected and inexplicably beautiful relationship that develops between the Mayor and his little deer. Georgia Hart and Rupert Channing narrate this audiobook and I really enjoyed their performances and were fantastic in bringing the Ballerina and the Butcher Boy to life! Where we left off here (and we do get a HEA for Max and Cassidy) left me wanting to learn more I’m so excited to be starting Bronson’s story next he’s such a contradiction of humour and violence so I’m looking forward to getting up close and personal with him. This series so far has been very enjoyable and I do recommend it.

Cassidy is the golden girl of the ballet, with a giant crush on the bad boy of the district and watching him fall for her is amazing! Some plot hole are left open at the end of the book but that's too be expected in a duet and nothing is left grossly unexplained. Its all so very well done! stars. I read this a while ago, so this review won't be very detailed, but this is a good read if you like the tropes of mafia, virgin girl / experienced guy, jealous /possessive hero, classy girl/ rough guy, and surprise pregnancy towards the end. In true Nicci fashion, she doesn't give you the ending you've been dreaming about and wishing on a star for, oh no, that would be too humane, instead, she serves it up true District style with an intricately woven finale that is equal parts raw, messy complicated and oddly fulfilling.Early morning: Some people find that reading in the morning helps them start their day with a positive and productive mindset. There was a bit of involvement of other side characters here and there, which added to the tension of the world. The focus of the plotline heavily falls on romance; there was little exploration and explanation of the world which I am curious about and hope we get to see more of that in the second book. Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books. Find out how in this guide. What’s bizarre is that Fern never considers an abortion. She doesn’t have to choose that, obviously. But it doesn’t feel believable that she’s not at least THINK about her options – even if she’d conclude that she’s choosing to have the baby. There’s a hole in the center of this story where there SHOULD be her having feelings about carrying a baby that resulted from rape. Any normal person would feel some kind of way about it! So, the absence of that is glaring, and weird, and it makes Fern feel less like a real person.

First off this is two books in one- which is fabulous. I love that the author made my life easier for me. Ch30 of book1 Our thing, deserves special mention because until then the story was oscillating between romance and the sneak peeks of mafia in the District and what secrets lay therein..but this chapter...this chapter explained "A thief is a criminal until he's stealing to feed his kin. A neglectful mother is a bad mother until she is working two jobs to give her children the best opportunities. A gun is terrifying until it's what's keeping you safe, and then you're terrified without it." which Cassidy thinks in a chapter long before this one...The way she was frozen but later stood up for herself and like desperate times call for desperate measures?,she just did it!I loved her more in this chapter. i normally love a dark romance novel containing taboo subjects (really, it’s often what i look for often in a book) but i don’t know exactly yet what it is about this one that made me feel super uneasy (well actually i do know, but it seems that i’m so frustrated with this book that i can’t properly articulate it) The characters are charismatic with bold personalities that tug at your heartstrings. I quite enjoyed the contrast between Cassidy, the district's sweetheart, and the total alpha male vibe from the district's most notorious bad boy Max Butcher. "The Duet" is good girl meets bad boy, District style and I loved every minute of it. We have Cassidy, an 18 year old ballerina who lives, breath, and sleeps dance. But has had a crush on Max Butcher since he saved her brother when they were children. She only finally gets close to him on her 18th birthday due to her friend hanging out with him. So we go on an emotionally roller coaster of what they will lead to or if it will be anything at all.The heroine, Fern is 18, grew up in the foster system, and she goes to Clay’s house for help with her pregnancy situation, since she thinks her long lost dad is there. He’s not, and little does Fern know that Clay is pretending to be generous and have her stay with him while he “looks for” her dad, but he’s REALLY planning to use her and her unborn son to lure out her dad to kill him. (The reason relates to events from earlier books…so this would be confusing if you read it as a standalone!) When she first meets Clay, she was captivated and compelled to do everything he said. His magnetic personality, charming looks and powerful stature command people to listen. For me it wasn't even about what happened, but was about how annoying as shit the characters were 😭- or to put it more ✨eloquently✨: was about how unbelievably immature the characters were barely that far into the story- and how unlikeable they became because of it? I can't get over the fact that she wanted him to forgive her 🧍‍♀️.
