About this deal

The picture below was a test for an auto-orientation and auto-support in Lychee Slicer, along with a few custom supports along the bottom, though the print orientation angle is much more than 45°. Both offer fantastic resolution for the price – they’re both the best-quality resin MSLA printers for the price, in our opinion. AmeraLabs actually did some great testing with light-off delay and showed that having 0 light-off delay resulted in a really grainy and low quality surface finish. Values below 1 second can contribute to lower quality, so you want to use 1 second at minimum. Best Lifting Distance Setting However, for the best value, you might consider the lower-spec Elegoo Mars 2 Pro, as despite the 2K LCD, it is so cheap now that it’s a great way to dip your toes into resin 3D printing for beginners or casual makers.

The LighTurbo matrix has been optimised to make the parallel light source even more stable and uniform. This effectively reduces layer lines on the one hand and completely eliminates grid lines on the other. Nothing stands in the way of vivid details and fine, smooth surfaces! Print quality is indistinguishable between the two, chiefly due to vastly identical specifications. We ran a few prints from the original Photon Mono for comparison, and while the Photon Mono can still print some pretty fantastic miniatures, there was just no competition when it came to the Photon Mono 4K. The amount of depth and detail that the Photon Mono 4K can convey compared to the Photon Mono is just staggering. Details on armor popped far more, and the new model was able to even carve out tiny, nuanced facial features that the original Photon Mono tended to blur out. This small crew was printed on the Photon Mono for comparison. While some of the details are slightly muddled, they’re still really impressive.Print orientation is not a “set value” type setting, instead, it is the combination of different activities such as rotating, scaling, moving, and placing the model on the build plate in slicer software.

The heat distribution makes finished resin prints easier to remove without affecting surface finish when scraping them, as well as improving adhesion to the build plate. This reduces errors – we all know the frustration of having a resin model adhere to the resin rather than the build plate causing it to fail. What is new with the Photon Mono 2 compared to the previous versions? Well, the LCD display still uses monochrome technology, but in this case they use a 4K+ LCD screen. this is a minor upgrade from the Photon Mono 4K in a way that it has slightly more pixels. in technical details, the Photon Mono 4K has an LCD with 3840 * 2400 pixels while the new Anycubic Photon Mono 2 has an LCD screen with 4096 * 2560 pixels. Having a similar pixel size of 35 microns, it will give the Photon Mono 2 a slightly larger build plate of 143*89 cm compared to 132 * 80 cm of its predecessor. However, you may prefer Anycubic’s software, and adjustable power for special resin printing, in which case go for the Anycubic Photon Mono 4K. Elegoo Mars vs Anycubic Photon – Best Value The default values for these settings usually do pretty well, but I’d try to reduce the speeds and increase the lifting distance for larger prints. During the printing process, a lower lift speed helps the print to evenly peel off the FEP film each layer cure. You can use it to select the model that you want to print, to adjust the UV power, to move the Z-axis rod, to adjust the exposure, the rising speed, retraction speed and more. I did find the LCD display to be fairly responsive and it did move fast through the menus (a very similar performance to what I saw on the Longer LK5 Pro), but I also need to mention that you can see a live rendition of every layer that’s getting cured, as well as an approximate time until the model is going to be done. All around the base, you can see that there are quite a few ventilation cut-outs and, on the right side, there is a Power switch and a USB-A connector that you can use to insert an external storage device. If you have wondered how to calibrate your 3D printer resin, this is an ideal way to get it done. Resin exposure calibration or a resin calibration test is what people do to properly dial in their settings. The Elegoo Mars 3 upgrades the linear rails for better precision, smoother printing and a quieter 3D printing experience, as well as improving the build plate. So yes, I used an aluminum tray to prevent any spills that I may have from the printing platform to reach unwanted surfaces, and I did use two separate plastic containers with lids for the isopropyl alcohol. I went a bit overboard, so I covered the entire table by a transparent plastic layer and then I put the printer into the aforementioned tray, but my routine was the following. If you’re looking to determine which is fastest out of the Anycubic Photon vs Elegoo Mars, it’s again very close. You may be curious as to what features have been upgraded in Photon Mono 2. Let us tell you in a video!
