About this deal

Summary: Arnie the doughnut is quite the beautiful doughnut, and cannot wait to be chosen at the doughnut shop! Mr. Bing chooses him and takes him home and when they get there, Arnie discovers that Mr. Bing plans to eat him, and Mr. Bing discovers that Arnie doesn't want to be eaten! The two figure out a compromise and become good friends. If you want to know what they compromise is, you should read the book! Publishers Weekly gave the book a positive review, noting that "hits hard to imagine a more engaging (or comical) way to learn the 50 states and their locations." [1] Potato Pants! was Keller's seventh book and was released by Henry Holt Books for Young Readers in 2018. It tells the story of Potato and his eggplant nemesis, who struggle to find the perfect pants. The Weston Woods adaptation, released in 2019 and narrated by a full cast, was directed by Galen Fott.

At first glance, Arnie looks like an average doughnut―round, cakey, with a hole in the middle, iced and sprinkled. He was made by one of the best bakeries in town, and admittedly his sprinkles are candy-colored. Still, a doughnut is just a doughnut, right?Keller grew up in Muskegon, Michigan. After graduating high school, she took education classes at a local community college and studied dance until a friend brought her to see a show at the Kendall College of Art and Design, which re-sparked her interest, causing her to enroll and receive a degree from the college in illustration. When reading this book, I found myself to be very worried for Arnie. He is so sweet and naive, and it was heartbreaking when he found out that all doughnuts are usually eaten. However, the story becomes much happier once you realize Arnie is not going to be eaten, and even more so when he finds the perfect role as Mr. Bing's dog. Books [ edit ] As writer and illustrator [ edit ] The Scrambled States of America [ edit ] The Scrambled States of America Author Yet another book I liked more the second time around. Keller's sense of humor is appealing, the artwork has a funky quality, the story amuses, especially the big plot twist. Hello, friends! It’s JJ’s birthday today, and we’re celebrating with a delightfully silly favorite from our library, Arnie The Doughnut by Laurie Keller.

Keller has written and illustrated six books for Henry Holt Books for Young Readers: The Scrambled States of America, an American geography book; Open Wide: Tooth School Inside, a dental book about tooth care; Arnie the Doughnut, about an anthropomorphic doughnut; Grandpa Gazillion's Number Yard, a number book, Do Unto Otters, a book about manners; and The Scrambled States of America Talent Show, the follow-up to her 1998 debut. At first glance, Arnie looks like an average doughnut—round, cakey, with a hole in the middle, iced and sprinkled. Laurie Keller is an American children's writer and illustrator. She has written and illustrated books for Henry Holt & Co. Books for Young Readers, and produced illustrations for others. WRONG! Not if Arnie has anything to say about it. And, for a doughnut, he sure seems to have an awful lot to say. Can Arnie change the fate of all doughnuts—or at least have a hand in his own future? Well, you'll just have to read this funny story and find out for yourself. Customer reviews

Arnie was fascinated as he watched the customers stream into the bakery. One by one, doughnuts were chosen, placed in paper bags, and whisked away with their new owners. Some went by the dozen in giant boxes. WRONG! Not if Arnie has anything to say about it. And, for a doughnut, he sure seems to have an awful lot to say. Can Arnie change the fate of all doughnuts―or at least have a hand in his own future? Well, you'll just have to read this funny story and find out for yourself. This title has Common Core connections Opinion: This book is so Funny! I watched and listened to it being read by Chris O'Dowd on Story Line on YouTube and he did a very good job. The illustrations are fun and colorful and full of variety. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. This is part of my 365 Kids Books challenge. For an explanation see my review for 101 Amazing Facts about Australia You can see all the books on their own shelf. Arnie just crawls deeper into my heart with each reread. Part of it is being impressed with how Keller worked out the conundrum to provide an ending that was perfectly satisfying in an unexpected way. Big brain thinking. It's a happy store at least in part because of how unhappy it could be.
