San Marzano tomato plants can be grown from seed here in the United States but they will never be given the DOP designation because of where and how they are being grown.

The best thing you can do is use canned San Marzano tomatoes. It really does make a difference. San Marzano tomatoes are sweeter with a better tomato taste. Plus whole, peeled tomatoes are superior in quality. Sweeter, less acidic, with a meatier pulp and less seeds than the average plum tomato, their flavor speaks for itself making San Marzano tomatoes the King of Canned Tomatoes!Our pomodoro sauce uses San Marzano tomatoes. This variety is ideal for sauces, thanks to their dense flesh and fantastic fragrance. We’ve added garlic cloves for mellow sweetness, and salt to help enhance the natural sweetness of tomatoes. This easy pomodoro sauce is so simple to make – it only needs to start cooking just before putting the dried pasta on to boil!
