About this deal

In so doing, I intend to help future generations of young women that are hungry for fame and would do anything to make a name. I do not intend to decide for them or dissuade them from following their dreams. I intend to show them the whole picture. I intend to give them the ingredients to prepare their own meals of life. The teacher’s question set me on a lifelong inquest into what has turned out to be the most elusive assignment of my life. The more I discovered, the more I wished the search hadn’t started in the first place. But the more answers I got, the more desperate I became about finding the true answer to the most important question of my life—who am I? That I am Yvonne Nelson is a well-established fact to outsiders, but to my family and a handful of friends, I am not Yvonne Nelson. After almost four decades of my existence, I am still as desperate as when that seed of confusion was planted in my head by a teacher who, perhaps, did not appreciate the full import of what he was doing. The search for answers was bound to begin at a certain point in my life, but his question brought some urgency and intensity to the entire enterprise.

Above all, the main reason I decided to write this book precedes my birth. I have searched in all the possible places for answers but failed. So, I am telling this story with the hope that I will find answers that will stop the tears that only my pillow can adequately bear witness to. The launch was graced by many industry stalwarts, businessmen, and politicians, including John Dumelo, Adjetey Anang, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and Becca. Also present were media personalities, including Manasseh Azure Awuni, Sammy Forson, and GhanaWeb Entertainment Editor Benefo Buabeng, popularly known as Abrantepa. Colonialism did a number on our people. It’s not something that will dismantle in this generation. Hell neo-colonialism is the new thing and it’s not going anywhere either from the looks of it.

About this book

Since its release, the book has dominated social media trends, sparking controversies about her alleged affair with a top Ghanaian rapper.

Mr Nelson, despite being very accepting of all his outside kids, never accepted Yvonne. Mr Adjetey never had an idea Yvonne existed. On Sunday, June 18, 2023, Ghanaian actress and movie producer Yvonne Nelson launched her debut book. A major talking point of the memoir, dubbed "I Am Not Yvonne Nelson," is the revelation that she aborted a pregnancy belonging to rapper Sarkodie after he refused to take responsibility in 2010. Children of my generation grew up seeing Rawlings as an enigma. He had transitioned from a military ruler to a civilian president, but much of what we heard about him were his exploits as a soldier. He was a symbol of bravery, justice and fearlessness. His looks endeared him to many, and his antics and showmanship made him a delight to watch anytime he was on television. As far as some of us were concerned, he was among the most powerful men on earth, and whoever was close to him had to be really important. So, I rated Lt. Col. Davies, the father of my siblings, highly. When a mother doesn’t want to indulge the paternity of her child, it might mean a lot. I think she might not know who the father reasons being - was experiencing her own body. Could also be rape or could be sexual favors gone wrong. This is Ghana we are talking about and misogyny is a 3 course meal. But while a lot of the drama trailing the book has focused on her romantic and failed relationships, the book’s main inspiration comes from from Yvonne Nelson’s relationship with her parents. Her mother had claimed a certain man named Oko Nelson was Yvonne’s father all her life despite the man’s complaints that he wasn’t. For years, Yvonne and her alleged father were estranged over the belief that he didn’t claim her. It wasn’t until Mr Nelson was ill that her mother finally revealed that he wasn’t her father. The actress describes the pain that followed this revelation and how her alleged father’s death further compounded it. The discovery of her true paternity gave birth to the title of the book, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’. The surname she bore over many years wasn’t her real surname. The rapper's immediate reaction to the news about the pregnancy according to her was an obvious heart palpitation and a faltering voice, as he rejected the pregnancy in favor of his budding career. I say this, knowing fully well that some may mistake it as me slutshaming but I am not. I am only working with the clues available in this book. Uncharacteristic of an autobiography, the author comes to her audience stark naked. The book opens the door widely into the life of the author and exposes the good, the bad, and the ugly sides, not only of her life but also of the make-believe world of celebrities.

This is a book that is bound to ruffle feathers and ignite wild debates, but those who read it objectively and without the judgmental binoculars will see the story of a young woman—fallible like all other mortals— who is determined to leave a mark despite the internal and external forces that have erected high hurdles in her way. Accra, June 19, GNA – Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has released her highly anticipated autobiography, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” which has sparked conversations on social media.Nelson candidly describes their relationship as not particularly serious. As a music enthusiast, she gravitated towards individuals in the music industry, drawn to Sarkodie’s talent. Their connection grew deeper as they spent more time together. Some chapters of the book sighted by GNA Entertainment include “Iyanya and My Love Life,”“A Man’s World,”“Genevieve Nnaji and the Rest,”“An Entrepreneur,” and “Prize and Price of Motherhood,” among others. The drama and the twists and turns of this moving story have all the markings of a spellbinding movie script, except that the protagonist, who is an actor, is contending with a reality that intermittently soaks her pillow with tears. So why am I in a hurry to write my memoir before I turn 40? Do I think I have achieved so much that this stage of my life deserves a book? Have I reached the pinnacle of my goals and ambitions? I am writing because I have a story to tell. I am here to be real. I am here to open up, especially to a generation of young women that needs the truth to make decisions. I am here to find the most important answer to the most nagging question about my life.
