When white vinegar is added to a washing machine, it acts like a fabric softener. It can, therefore, be used to soften up the coarse pet hair.
If you are frequently battling with cat fur on your clothes, keeping your washer and dryer as clean as possible will help. Make it a regular habit to wipe the inside of your washing machine and dryer. You can also put your washing machine on a short rinse cycle to ensure it stays clean. Don't forget to clean out the lint filter of your tumble dryer after each load, and if you think it's a particularly "furry" load, it's a good idea to stop the dryer midway through to clean out the filter. Pet hair is made from keratin which is a pretty tough kind of protein, and is usually hard to get rid of. You can try the homemade methods below, but do keep in mind that these items may only ‘soften’ or ‘loosen’ the hair in the washer rather than dissolve it. Simply place the bedding or garments in the dryer with a pet hair remover dryer sheet or wool balls for about 10 minutes on low heat settings.
