About this deal

My first impression of Amanda Prowse is mostly a positive one. I’m not sure that this story is the very best representation of her work, however. But it was a solid read, and I enjoyed it overall. proffering my purse: the Céline hobo bag in chamois, perfect for everything but holding a change of clothes." When single parent, thirty-nine-year-old Solène Marchand accompanies her young daughter and a few friends to see their favourite pop group, August Moon, in Las Vegas, including a meet and greet with the band, the last thing she expected was to catch the eye of one of the members, nineteen years her junior and for a secret love affair to begin. But as time goes on is this just a simple fling, two people hooking up, or have they crossed the boundary, and can they keep their love affair secret when Haye’s is in one of the biggest bands in the world, adored by millions and has journalists and fans following his every move? After two decades in Hollywood, Lee, now 46, knew what it was like to be marginalized. Auditions waned; roles shifted. “You're no longer the hot one. You're not the girlfriend. You're not even the hot wife now. You're the mom,” she said. “It really broke my spirit, and I was angry about it, and so a lot of that went into this book.” A fictional artist at Soléne’s gallery wins raves for a video-installation “exploring how women of a certain age cease to be seen.” Soléne’s ex-husband remarries; Hollywood tropes would have had her eating Ben and Jerry’s under the covers, in mourning. Instead, she is the elder in a May-December relationship, with a youthful Botticelli angel ministering to her on a yacht in Anguilla. It’s electric, triumphant, to read.

The writing in this book is sublime, seamless and this is a writing debut. Robinne Lee is an author to look out for. As many readers of this book will say, I want need more, just so that I can keep on breathing. The Idea of You is going to cause a big stir this year. I can see some people finding their new book boyfriend in Haye’s Campbell or his bandmates. I wouldn’t be surprised if I see this being adapted for the big screen in the future as it has the kind of plot you can perfectly visualise and characters that are in a situation I doubt happens often but were completely realistic within it. But I'm afraid I just couldn't get over that age difference. It didn't work for me. Inconsistent of me maybe, as I would possibly find an older man/ younger woman easier to accept? But with this age difference? It would have to be a pretty great writer to make it not seem creepy. Another tiny little thing that bothered me a bit. Those 'serious' parts that were talked about a lot - about how women stop being seen once they're over 40 and all the artists of color stuff in the gallery. I know that it's a huge thing, especially in America, but it was a tiny little bit too preachy for such an amazing romance. But that's the only thing I didn't love-love. Oh, yeah - and the end! ☺ But I still loooooved the book. I totally understand the end. Solène didn't want to keep on hurting her daughter and she didn't want to burden Hayes with an old wife. But I'm still heartbroken over it - even days (edited: YEARS!) later! I've read a few stories with this theme, and this is definitely one of the stronger ones. I like the author's style and would want to read some of her other books. It's not a major stand-out where I feel compelled to buy her next one immediately, but it's got all the qualities of a good book you will enjoy. I pushed it to a 4 because it's much higher than an average / OK book with a few good parts at a 3. Fans latched onto the story for its romance and globe-spanning intrigue, but the book has widely been characterized as Harry Styles fan fiction, since the musician who forms one half of the book's central couple is part of an incredibly popular British boy band. Lee told Vogue that Styles did, in fact, provide the initial spark of inspiration for the project, saying she "was up late surfing music videos on YouTube" when she "came across the face of a boy I'd never seen in a band I'd never paid attention to. It was like . . . art." When she learned that Styles often dated older women, the idea for the novel was born.

Lee also explored some common stereotypes that most women face at some point in their lives and she really focused on the age old double standard where older men date much younger women and no one bats an eye while an older woman dating a younger man is frowned upon and judged harshly. Here's The List Of Movies Being Filmed In Atlanta, Georgia Right Now". I admit that I didn’t identify with this novel as I do not have children and have not personally experienced the hardships that Lucy and Jonah have. I can’t imagine how it must feel to experience that pain and I don’t wish it on anyone. Putting that aside however, I found Lucy to be a one-note character and didn’t think she was likeable. Further, her desperation to find a man at the beginning of the novel irked me to no end. I wanted to shake her and tell her to gain some confidence and self-respect. I did however like Camille and appreciated the growth of Lucy and Camille’s relationship. As confirmed in the Deadline article regarding Hathaway's casting and the Vogue story above, The Idea of You is based on the book of the same name, written by Robinne Lee. When secrets come out Jonah doesn't exactly handle the situation very well and up until that point I was feeling very sorry for him being in the middle of Waring women as he literally could do nothing right! Deeply moving and emotional, Amanda Prowse handles her explosive subjects with delicate skill' - Daily MailAt first, the young and dashing English Hayes Campbell just wants to take Solène out for lunch, but it isn’t long before the pair are meeting up in secret across the world. Hiding their ‘meetings’ from friends and family the only people who know about them are Haye’s bandmates, their girlfriends, and staff. This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles,” Lee told Vogue. “It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”

You finally have something else to obsess about. Will have you staying up all night to finish' THE SKIMMI wanted to see more about Lucy's life with her sister and mother. I understand with some of the reveals that come later in the story why it wouldn't exactly be easy, but it would have helped give her more depth. I couldn't decide for quite some time whether I liked Lucy or not but as the story progressed, it occurred to me that it wasn't about liking or disliking this character. She's experiencing the normal feelings you would expect of someone of her age and circumstances. Lucy is just human and I ended up admiring her for being authentic in her reactions to miscarriage, a resentful stepdaughter and a husband in denial. So this is what twenty looked like. That sweet spot between adolescence and the moment things began to unravel.” While there have been rumors that the movie is based on fanfiction, the author has said it was never meant to be that. Robinne Lee, in that same interview with Vogue, said that Harry Styles only inspired her for the character of Hayes. The book was about female empowerment and learning how to rediscover your body after a certain age:
