About this deal

The song's inspiration stems from a trip when the band was on their way to record for Satellite on March 5, 2001. They were held up in traffic and discovered that the reason was a mass shooting at Santana High School, where a fifteen-year-old student named Charles Andrew Williams killed two and wounded thirteen. The album was consequently delayed, and the band was inspired to write "Youth of the Nation." Sonny Sandoval told us: "We had always been a touring band and we had toured through Colorado, even when Columbine had happened, and we had an awesome underground following, even of kids in Colorado. So when we toured through Colorado, some of the kids that survived the Columbine shootings put on a fund raiser, so we've always been kind of involved in that. We're hanging out with young kids, we're talking with kids, and that was one of the things that was going on when we were touring so many years ago. So it had always been something that was on our shoulders.

Darius from Colorado Springs, CoLol if 99% of deaths is caused by religon then why not all religons come together and annihilate Toby? P.O.D.’s first album, 1994’s Snuff The Punk, came out the same year as Korn’s debut, and Sandoval’s band were soon shoehorned into the burgeoning nu metal movement alongside them. “We got lumped in with Body Count, because we’re from the hood and we’re a band of colour,” says the singer. “Then we got lumped in with Rage Against The Machine. So when the nu metal thing came along, we were just, like, [shrugging] ‘OK, cool.’”Chase from San Diego, CaThank you for the song. Our school is and always will be greatful. I was a student there went it all The song was released on Christmas Day of 2001 (December 25th, 2001) as the second single from the band’s fourth studio album Satellite. Satellite sold over seven million copies across the globe, making it one of the best-selling album of all time. And then when this happened it was like wow, what's going on with these kids? And it was like here it is, these are the youth of the nation. So it just sparked that whole story." Kaveh from Urbana, Ohthe only thing i can say is thank you p.o.d. for making this song because it has helped alot of people out an that was there goal even if it touched one person it meant that the meaning of this song was understood

Youth of the Nation (UK & European CD single liner notes). P.O.D. Atlantic Records. 2002. AT0127CD, 7567-85249-2. {{ cite AV media notes}}: CS1 maint: others in cite AV media (notes) ( link) before you even start to insult people who have faith in God.. you might want to take into consideration that most of the music you would listen to actually pass on messages about GOD and help people who are going through terrible times.. Brynden from Puyallup, Waman this song is gnarly. reading that comment by justin is just unbelievable.. i cant imagine seeing my friend get shot like that. this song has a lot of meaning. this sounds cliche but Violence is not the only way to get your anger out, infact its not the answer at all. God is the only way. He's behind you every step, every second, every min. of your life. he can help you. God Bless

On The Go

Lane from Lansing, IaTruly a deep song, and all you people who think it's Christians that do this look up "voice of the martyrs" then you will find the truth. I don't think you understand death. Have you ever been near it, or even thought about it. Telling us to all die in a brutal way is stupid. You are the type that likes to pass the blame, people are the root of all problems.

Youth of the Nation (US promo CD liner notes). P.O.D. Atlantic Records. 2001. PRCD 300728. {{ cite AV media notes}}: CS1 maint: others in cite AV media (notes) ( link) Josh from Corry, Patoby... wat if you actually knew the shooter.. yes religion does cause a lot of the problems between countries... but you need to overlook the fact.... that noone gives a s--t about wat u have to say... wat im actually trying to say is if u knew the shooter, how would u label him? would u label him christian still? i sure as the hell wouldnt The kids who did this were Christians, but everyone will label them differently to protect the religion. Joel from Columbia, ScI like this song. It is similar to "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam in that there were both shootings at a school. It is sad when something like that happens but having a song about it helps to get through. The Columbine High School massacre was perpetrated by two senior students of the Columbine High School 17-year-old Dylan Klebold and 18-year-old Eric Harris. The massacre, which lasted from 11:19 a.m. to 12:08 p.m., claimed the lives of 12 students and a teacher. The shooting also left 24 others with various degrees of injuries. After the killings, the two perpetrators exchanged fire with police before committing suicide. The pair’s motives for committing the heinous crime still remain unclear.Jillian from Delaware, Ohmy dad used to play this song all the time when it came out , and i never knew what it was called, and then i searched for it a couple months ago and couldnt remember most of the song, i heard it today on a video my health teacher showed us in class, it's a really good song . Galen from California , CaI was one of the kids who survived the shooting and when I heard about them writing a song about it I couldn't wait to hear it. well i am sure that 99% of the worlds conflict is caused by people who make pretentious assumptions such as your comment.. Youth of the Nation” was written by four members of P.O.D. (lead vocalist Sonny Sandoval, bass player Traa Daniels, drummer Noah Bernardo, and lead guitarist Marcos Curiel).
