Shelter Systems’ Fish and Koi Pond Covers have a covering made wholly of a superstrong, tear-proof, white multilaminate woven ripstop film which will not rot or mildew. It is UV stabilized to withstand up to 3 years full sun exposure and treated with fire retardant. The fabric is a super strong, high tensile strength, rip-stop, completely waterproof, mildew resistant, and cannot be torn by hand even after it is cut. The white color of the covering reflects the heat of the sun and provides 40% shade. This US made, proprietary material is the finest material we could find to make our tents from. Pond covers provide protection for your fish against predators such as herons or cats as well as preventing the build up of fallen leaves and other debris in your pond. The low profile means they don't stand out in your garden, whilst the add-on legs allow you to raise them up over any existing plants if you wish. They do not require a fly or liner and are completely watertight and will not leak. They resist condensation build up because the shingled construction drives out moist air by vapor pressure. There are many different types of pond covers that you can use and in this article I’ll share 5 of the most popular types of pond covers. The 0.5 pore size mesh of pond netting koi is a good barrier to leaves, wind debris, and pond mulch creates a clean, tidy and safe space for your fish and plants. Generally speaking, purchasing pond netting with small/medium (3/8 – 1/2 inch) size mesh holes will provide protection from both leaves and predators effectively. This is the best size to combat both debris and predators, and is the most common with most pond netting manufacturers.
Time will tell for the netting and the sleeves that hold the poles, which is where similar things I’ve owned have failed after a few years of sun exposure. - The stakes are not great. If a collection needs to be arranged, this will be made for a weekday only, between standard working hours. If you are not able to be at home when the collection is to be made, we can arrange for goods to be collected from a safe location at your request. Dome covers are easy to install over the top of your pond but in winter you’ll need to clear away the snow to prevent them collapsing from the weight of the snow.
Rigid mesh can be installed on top of your pond to keep debris from entering the water and to make the pond safe for kids. A more heavy duty pond netting by Dewitt, which offers increased strength due to it’s knitted 1/4″ mesh design. While most netting is usually constructed with 3/4″ and 3/8″ mesh, Dewitt’s much smaller holes means it can be bound much tighter together, increasing its overall durability.
