About this deal

Can I be honest, the modern day story bores me for the most part. Ally unfortunately feels like the caricature of a "strong" woman, and for the most part falls flat. She's not particularly interesting. Seriously. The romance between her and Theo was so unbearable that I was thanking the stars above that he fell off that damn boat. He made this supposedly strong woman into a whipped puppy that followed close to her master's heels. It felt like such an unhealthy relationship, but she's calling this guy her soulmate. Why was anyone okay with this relationship? She lost her sense of agency with him! Please don't have and tell me she's strong without showing actual strength. Also...Lucinda Riley, you threw every trope imaginable into her story. Was that really necessary? I feel like I got unneeded whiplash from the lot of it. I could not groan loud enough when it was revealed that Ally was pregnant with Theo's child. The story follows Ally (Alcyone), the second sister in her quest of healing after the sudden death of her father, the mysterious billionaire Pa Salt. In this novel, we delve into the past of a blossoming singer, Anna, from pastoral Norway who is recruited to become the ghost voice for the premier production of Grieg's Peer Gynt. The legend clearly states Zeus has power over the formidable Atlas. He had his way with the latter’s daughters, even fathering children with three of them, and even made his wife Pleione pregnant. It is thus more than likely that Kreeg is nòt a friend of Pa’s, rather some looming threat and maybe the starting point of the entire mystery. The two may have fought over the same woman in the past, one of them maybe even had a child with her that may or may not be known by now. It could be Kreeg is the start of all evil and Pa has been running and shielding his loved ones from him his entire life. I knew that my ‘gift' of beauty had helped to bring about the most painful moment of my life, simply because I was too naive at the time to understand the power it wielded. So now, I hid it away, which meant hiding myself.'

Ally has also recently embarked on a deeply passionate love affair that will change her destiny forever. But with her life now turned upside down, Ally decides to leave the open seas and follow the trail that her father left her, which leads her to the icy beauty of Norway . . .Lucinda Kate Riley ( née Edmonds; 16 February 1965 – 11 June 2021) [1] [2] was a Northern Irish author of popular historical fiction, formerly an actress and ballet dancer. Mr and Mrs Tanit / Elle and Pa Salt, left suddenly in 1944 as she no longer felt comfortable there. Louise thought it was due to Teddy making a move on her in the past months. Die Geschichte an sich setzt wieder in der selben Zeit an wie Band 1, was vermutlich vor allem gut ist, wenn zwischen dem lesen der einzelnen Bücher etwas mehr Zeit liegt als bei mir dieses Mal 😇😅 Mr and Mrs Tanit were working for Flora (The Shadow Sister, book 3) at High Weald in 1943. Mrs Tanit spoke with an accent. Olympus, (Kreeg Eszu’s yacht) was moored where the Titan stood. Kreeg Eszu was later found to have committed suicide. Ally believes she had witnessed Pa Salt’s “funeral”.

To start with, some mythological and linguistic fun. Author Lucinda Riley sprinkles myths and anagrams like cornflakes indeed, and those contain a fair deal of hints about the overall story. This is a tough one as the book is rife with orphans and seemingly los characters, but all readers agree we ought to look for Pa Salt on the ship that brings Kitty to Australia in 1949. Was this whilst studying in Paris? Where she met Bo/Pa Salt? We know from the cover of Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt, that the boy we believe is Pa Salt falls in love in Paris and that he is taking classes at the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris. I am sure this includes Elle. There, Ally begins to discover her roots and her inextricable connection to a young unknown singer, Anna Landvik, who lived over a hundred years ago and sang in the first performance of Grieg’s iconic music set to Ibsen’s playPeer Gynt. As Ally learns more about Anna, she also starts to question who her father really was—and why the seventh sister is missing. By the way – this whole “death of Pa Salt” needs its own post as there are SO many points to discuss here. It was totally orchestrated and planned. But WHY, and is he dead – or not? Is it possible he was not yet in 2007, but will be by the time Merope is found? Ok, I really need to plan in a post on this topic before I trail off entirely. Atlantis, June 2007

Once again, this does revolve more around Betty, and I did find myself missing Charlie and Fliss in places, but I loved how they work together and trust each other through this. They are great together and it's nice to see any wobbles in their relationship from the start of the series really ironed out. Elle, Bo, Pip and Karine eft Leipzig for Norway after Bo’s lodging was set on fire. There were jews living these. We are not sure whether Bo/ Pa Salt was also a Jew, or if he just feared for the love of his life as she was. The Storm Sister is the second book in the Seven Sisters series about six girls adopted from around the world by a mysterious billionaire who begin quests to discover their origins after his sudden death. The series is top of this year’s Whitcoull’s Top 100 and the rest of my book club all loved it. I was lukewarm about the first one for various reasons, but thought that Ally sounded more interesting than insipid Maia, and definitely enjoyed the stronger characters and non-romance plot line in this one.

Also, Cece’s story features Ace and a doomed piece of jewelry. I guess this must have a link to the final unravelling. Ace’s horrible father David Rutter is probably an anagram too, although I can’t find for whom. Erik Edvardson at the Ibsen Museum was my first port of call. It was he who told me that Ibsen had asked Grieg to write the incidental music for his poem and showed me the original photographs from the production of Peer Gynt. Then he told me about Solveig’s ‘ghost voice’, whose real identity is still unknown to this day. This gave me the key to the ‘past’ story. The whole historical perspective of Norwegian life in the 1870s came from Lars Roede at the Oslo Museum. The characters are excellent. They have grown so much through the books and in this story they really came together as a unit, building on each other's strengths and weaknesses to support and challenge each other. I loved the sibling relationship and how they worked together to find out what was really going on in the town. Wow, I'm going strictly by the book with this review in terms of Goodreads stars. The Storm Sister was good, but it wasn't great like the previous installment in the series. Harrison’s fully imagined world has conviction, and the perils of the story are lightened by the warmth and spirit of its characters’ The Sunday Times

Knyga man labai patiko. The villain(s) were a bit weak for me, especially after Tangle of Spells. I felt that one of them actually had some right to what they wanted to achieve, they just weren't being very nice about it. Injustice can often lead to bitterness and cruelty. She also seems to have a few things in common with Laurent Brouilly, from Maia’s story. He is also aristocratic, and his family owns a chateau near the Palace of Versailles. He was the oldest son, most likely born early in the 1900s. Could he be related to Baroness von Gottfried? Maybe she was his grandmother who inspired him to chase after his artistical dreams by going to Paris?
