About this deal

Can you recommend what steps we should take now and over the next 6 months to avoid further damage and/or what we could ask our builders to do to support this (either replace the lawn now, or dig it up and replace in spring for example)? We are happy to completely remove the lawn if this is best as it is fairly small & the grass not great. IMPORTANT: Make sure the lawn does not dry out after applying nematodes and keep it well watered for at least two weeks. Continue to keep the lawn moist for up to 2 weeks after application. Repeat these instructions for an introduction of a second nematode sachet application 7 days after the first application. Repeat applications may be required for severe applications. Full instructions are provided on delivery. Can I Store Nematodes?

Thank goodness for your blog as I just identified a big infestation in our beautiful and newly laid turf from summer last year. Really disheartening. minutes if treating a lawn. Applications to lawns require more water to wash the nematodes through the grass thatch. The nematodes then reproduce inside the dead pest and release a new generation of hungry infective nematodes, which disperse and search for further prey. I am sorry that you feel the need to remove all signs of nature from your outside space. We should learn to live with nature not actively try to destroy it. IMPORTANT: Make sure the lawn does not dry out after applying nematodes and keep it well watered for at least two weeks.Environmentally friendly and safe for children, pets and wildlife. No need to exclude children and pets from treated areas. I am planning on cuttings away the turf where the raised beds will go and using this turf in the bottom of the beds (with some organic-based compost on top). If there are larvae in the turf then will it affect my vegetables and should I treat the turf before I do this? Every issue, The English Garden magazine features the most beautiful gardens from all across the UK and Ireland - both town and country plots, big and small. Inside, you will find invaluable practical advice from real gardeners, plantspeople and designers. There’s stunning photography from the world’s top garden photographers, as well as insightful writing from experts. Ok that’s great. I have over netted my lawn and had eliminated over 1000 so far. ( plus prevented new ones entering my lawn) There are more males than females, so maybe my two years of nematodes worked with the females? Who knows? In spring, when the ground temperatures rise, they will reappear and start consuming the grass roots and some top growth.

Damage From Larvae: The young crane fly larvae start to feed on the roots of grass, continuing throughout Winter and into Spring. It’s not worth trying to get the remaining pests out now (June) as they will soon pupate and leave the lawn. Let their life cycle complete and then look at controlling numbers for next year. Keep them in the fridge for application as a preventative when conditions are correct later on in the year. We reported this issue to the house-builders and initially I asked them that I wanted them to replace the lawn with new turf, but to be honest I am not sure whether this will help after reading this article & Q&A’s. The weather has now turned cold so I do not think the nematodes will be the right immediate treatment (and perhaps not successful anyway due to the sheer amount of crane flies we had over September). I'm still putting plastic on the grass, I can't sweep the grass because it was ripping it up too much turf, so I'm using tweezers. I've got hundreds out so far.

It is very important to irrigate immediately after application, water the grass well so the nematodes are washed below the thatch layer into the soil to reach the roots where the larvae will be feeding. I have a new build property and about two years ago I had beautiful premium quality turf laid it died a little last spring but I managed to revive it with grass seed and watering. How can I now get rid of the LJ’s so I know they are not there when I lay the new turf? Every time I fork the ground I see at least a handful of the damn things. In late summer and early autumn, I would notice lots of daddy longlegs in my garden and I would try to stop them from mating by:If applications is made at any time other than September or October, we would recommend applying a follow up application in September to ensure any newly hatched grubs are also eradicated. Key Points To facilitate application at a volume of 2000 ltr/ha the following nozzle is recommended: Flat Fan Nozzle ISO Light Blue 10F110.

Dobies strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3. Irrigate immediately after application using 2-5 mm water to help wash the nematodes into the soil.I have them, my lawn was completely infested by them. I went from an ornamental carpet lawn to a mess in only a few months – my inexperience with them meant I did not treat them at all. He previously worked as a project manager and has experience in managing teams of tradespeople and landscape gardeners on both small and medium sized projects. Protect and keep moist. Birds may try to eat the seed and it does not want to be stepped on whilst it is growing. Also remember to keep it moist, especially on hot spring days.
