About this deal

This is the fourth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'The Girl She Wanted', 'The Widow' and 'The Marriage' which I highly recommend. Full of unexpected twists and turns, you are drawn into Josie’s life and how intimidated she feels by Samual’s presence. It’s a completely believable story and that makes it even more frightening! The story is told in several timelines starting in 1993 when eight year old Jimmy Bennett is deliberately trapped and subsequently dies inside a disused factory for which Samuel Barlow is convicted. Twenty five years on Samuel is due for release on parole, a huge cause of concern to Jimmy’s sister Josie, a cafe owner and single mum to eight year old Ivy. Maggie, Samuel’s mother is similarly concerned partly because he is now a prison hardened but more than capable of playing games and he was obsessed with with Josie when growing up. Will Josie and Maggie‘s concerns prove to be justified? This was the first KL Slater book I’ve read in some time. And for the most part I was mostly engaged through it felt a bit too long. Maybe too detailed-oriented for this type of book?

Against their better judgment Blake and Lucie agree. The caveat? Both fathers will keep watch from a discreet distance. Grace will never know. Absolutely brilliant! I sat and read the book in a day and did not want to put it down!… I even text my mum when I was halfway through telling her it was a book she NEEDED to read!!… Without a doubt 5 stars – I LOVED it!!!’ Donna's Book Blog, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Yet another fabulous title to add to my Bookouture beauties! I have recently come to associate Bookouture with a love of books and probably the most consistent crime thriller collection out there today. That is why each time I get to read an ARC copy of one of their killer thrillers, I just can't say no! Clear the calendar.... Here comes K.L. Slater's new title, THE MISTAKE! Samuel lived next door when we were children. We were inseparable. But he didn’t like sharing me with my adored little brother. And one terrible night, he got rid of my brother forever…Samuel's Mother wants to help, but she lied in the past to protect her child. Can she be trusted now? Josie's daughter Ivy has gone missing and Josie is sure she knows who took her. This is one of those stories that pulls you in at the beginning and doesn't let you go until you finish. You just need to find out what had taken place and how it ends. The pace is fast and the twists keep coming. I like the authors writing style and the way she can keep me on the edge of my seat. I did feel there were some loose ends needed tying up, so I took half a star off my rating.

The Girlfriend: An utterly unputdownable psychological

I smugly thought I knew which direction the author was going with this one, yet I was thrilled to discover I was dead wrong, surprised that K.L. Slater had a far better, much more satisfying ending than I could've conjured up in my imagination. Sixteen years ago Rose's little brother was killed, after that her life changed forever. Now she's a librarian who spends her days looking over her shoulder. She doesn't have much of a life. She's either at the library, her home--a place that keeps herself prisoner, or looking after her elderly neighbor. When her neighbor has to be hospitalized for a few days, she decides to clean his place up. While doing so she comes across something that will put her life into a spin. She starts looking at things a little differently.

I became eager for the answers to my questions, desperate to know more about Gareth, angry at Rose to wake up and see what was happening around her.
