About this deal

We’re proud to manufacture the entirety of our GeoMet range using a specialist, super-strength, resin made from recycled plastic bottles, diverting them from landfills and our oceans. Over 1,800 recycled plastic bottles are saved in every 220kg drum of resin we use. Given the choice I would go for plastic, at least it will protect the sides of the containers. As to the drainage holes I drilled the timber first with 22mm holes, lined the containers and then pushed through the plastic sheet with my pinky. The theory being that this pushed the plastic down into the holes and gave the bottom boards some protection too.

Some gardeners suggest using weed membrane as this lets the water through and prevents soil touching the wood. In my experience, it doesn’t provide as much protection as plastic.ULTRACLEAR Vinyl Tablecloth Custom Fitted Crystal Clear Waterproof Child Friendly Stain Resistant Antibacterial Handmade Table Cover This method is a bit more complicated and a little dangerous. Fibreglass will create a great finish that will protect your planter from moisture. Unfortunately, fibreglass can be dangerous if inhaled or touched while working with it so make sure you have the proper safety equipment. 5. Pond liner

If you’re using a fabric liner, such as burlap, try letting the liner show for a decorative, rustic look. Choose your pot liner material. The most common materials are plastic and fabric, such as burlap. Smaller plants can even use coffee filters. The material you use simply depends on the size of the pot you’re lining and what material you have at your disposal. Look around your house for material you can repurpose into pot liners.Any kind of metal in wood will cause damage and allow wet to enter – but in my experience glue doesn’t hold the liner in place. Staples cause the least wood damage – but don’t go overboard! I’ve found the best way to fit the plastic is to lie it across the top and push it gently down in the corners. For hydroculture plants use the size tip to select a decorative pot that will accommodate the waterproof liner recommended for the plant in the hydro kit. I was planning to line them with plastic (from a new matress) but then someone suggested soft weed surpressing membrane (and bought me some!) and was very certain this was the best way (and said he'd spoken to 2 landscape gardeners and the garden centre man about it).
