About this deal

With many applications in aerospace and other industries, glass ceramics is an extremely tough type of crystallized glass that serves as the foundation for Clear Glass Ceramics. While featuring the high transmittance required of optical devices, this advanced new material combines greater hardness than chemically strengthened glass and greater flexibility than sapphire crystal glass. These qualities make Clear Glass Ceramics the ideal material for protective lens filters. The zoom ring location is also a non-issue if focal length adjustments are not needed or not needed in haste.

We certainly don’t expect 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses to be modest in size nor weight, and the 70-200mm F2.8 DG OS HSM doesn't subvert expectations. In fact, its weight of 1,805g makes it around 265-325g heavier than its peers, while its 82mm filter thread and 94.2mm diameter are both relatively wide. When you compare the performance of this lens to the Canon and Nikon alternatives and then compare the prices, the Sigma 70-200 Sports appears to be a nice deal. Why? Well, The Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 only gets competitive when you stop it down.. so.. most of the time you'll be using it as a f/4 lens.. Wide open though, the Nikon definitely takes a lead, and at close distances, the Sigma definitely takes a hit. Of course if you want to do macro work then you should be on a tripod at f/4 or f/5.6 anyway, but I'm just stating the facts. Awesome lens, half the price of the Nikon. That's a fact. uses larger filters (82mm vs. 77mm) and is significantly heavier (63.5 vs. 56.3 oz, 1800 vs. 1595g w/ tripod ring).

The Nikon mount version of this lens includes an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism. Functionality may be limited on some camera bodies. For Nikon F mount cameras, please see Nikon camera compatibilityEspecially with the amount of magnification provided by this lens' focal length range, these results are quite good, though the stretched stars show that it is not perfect. Four control buttons are located ahead of the focus ring. They're placed at 90-degree increments, and their function can be set via the camera body. I set them for AF-ON when using the lens with various Nikon bodies.

Normal type. Protector is developed to protect the lens surface from dirt and dust as well as scratches. It is an ideal filter for regular use as it is completely colorless so does not affect color reproduction. But, also expect a similar amount of assistance from OS as it is still similarly and significantly compensating for shake. There's a lot to love about this lens. With excellent detail at even wider apertures, great control over chromatic aberrations, very effective image stabilisation and prompt autofocus, it delivers what the professional demands at this level. Great build and weather sealing make it even more competitive, as does that price tag. It's not a cheap lens, but you get an impressive performance for the money.Infinity and long distance focusing are sacrificed with an extension tube in use, but some modest maximum magnification increase can be realized using extension tubes behind this lens.

providing 1.4x and 2.0x magnifications of the original focal length while retaining the original minimum focus distance, translating to a 1.4x and 2x higher maximum magnification spec respectively. Autofocus is as fast, accurate and quiet as you’d hope for in the latest, top-notch 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses. The optical stabilizer gave an effectiveness of up to four stops in our tests, matching the performance of the latest equivalent Nikon lens, beating the newest Mk III Canon, but falling slightly behind the Tamron G2 for static subjects. However, the effectiveness of panning stabilization was a little better than in the Tamron lens.Comes with a very nice semi-soft lens-case that is well padded, the lens-shade plus a special APS-C extender is included, reversible for transport, and the lens-caps finally resemble the standard Nikons and can be mounted in any of three orientations. [+] The Nikon mount version of this lens includes an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism that allows it to receive the appropriate signals from the camera body. This feature ensures precision diaphragm control and stable Auto Exposure (AE) performance during continuous shooting. Rated for up to 4-stops of compensation, Sigma's OS (Optical Stabilization) adds greatly to this lens' usability versatility. With straight lines running along the edge of the frame, 70mm will show very slight barrel distortion, curving those lines outward in the center of the frame.
