About this deal

Leviathan is just the beginning for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. There’ll be a brisk pace of releases following hot on the heals of the launch set. You can also call on the might of the new Terminators. Clad in ancient armour that has seen many, many battles, these warriors will form the bulwark of your force. I really like that the classic Terminator style has been retained for these miniatures and they have simply been updated in terms of scale to match the Primaris.

So in the same moment that Warhammer 40,000 the tabletop game is more accessible and affordable for potential fans, and at the same time that more critics than ever are writing about Warhammer 40,000, both fans and critics are being held at arm’s length from the humans making it all happen behind the curtain. It’s an odd state of affairs. I can see a future where the 40K fandom is so alienated by these processes, the means of production so obscured to the public, and the true value of those newest and most sought-after releases so carefully hidden from critics like me that the pendulum of popularity begins to swing in the other direction. Note that with this model – as with all firearms-wielding models in this set bar a few of the Sternguard – you will need to drill out their gun barrels (if that’s a thing you do). We would like to say thanks to Games Workshop for furnishing us with this review copy of Warhammer 40,000 Leviathan. Warhammer 40,000 Leviathan Review – Availability & Tenth Edition Starter Sets? Self-appointed Editor in chief of FauxHammer.com - But I need to thank the team for existing and therefore enabling me to give myself role - without them, I'm just a nerd with a computer and a plastic addiction. In all, the positives on this side of the box drastically outweigh the negatives. The leggy dreadnought, the duplicate Infernus Squad sprues, and the push-fit models (which won’t be a criticism for some people who aren’t fans of the building process) are tiny niggles that are easily forgotten amidst the spew of exciting, detailed, and unique miniatures.

This set will get you bang up to date with the current storyline in Warhammer 40,000, but if you want to explore the horrors of the Fourth Tyrannic War, there’s the Leviathan tie-in novel by Darius Hinks, in which the Ultramarines mount a desperate defence in the face of the monstrous Hive Fleet Leviathan.

As of this point, all Space Marines and Tyranids miniatures are on their own sprues and aren’t attached to any of the other faction. We’ll look at each faction in turn and go sprue-by-sprue. This does mean that some sections will be for more than one unit, but we’ll still comment on each model or unit of models individually. Librarian in Terminator Armour In all, though, another great model and one that will keep Tyranid fans very happy. Tyranids – Round Up

So here are the overall contents for the Leviathon box. We’ll break it down by faction, starting with the Space Marines. No matter what you’re into – D&D, Pathfinder, Bolt Action, Kings of War, Age of Sigmar, any other board game or TTRPG – stop whatever it is you’re doing, put your dice and cards down, and pay attention. The gold standard for the next few years is likely about to be set. The Hive Mind has imbued this particular biomorph with a hunger for enemy psykers, its digestive tract somehow able to metabolise psychic lifeforms into psychocorrosive ash, which it projects forward in blistering torrents. Read more about the Tyranid side of the box here: If you’re a big fan of Space Marines (like me) then you’ll still probably be pretty happy with these guys. There’s something fun about painting Space Marine armour and getting those highlights looking awesome. If, however, you’re new to Warhammer or aren’t as much of a big Space Marine fan, you may be a touch disappointed with these ones – but not much. Ballistus Dreadnought These models are absolutely great, although I was expecting it to be a lot larger. Granted that he still towers over even the chonkiest of marines, but he looked like he’d be a table-defining centerpiece model, when really he’s about as tall as a Dreadnought.

Tyranids are a voracious alien swarm invading the galaxy from beyond the void. Guided by the Hive Mind, they have one terrible purpose – to devour every last shred of biomass, reconstituting it into even more powerful biomorphs and repeating the nightmarish cycle anew on the next world in their path. Winged Tyranid Prime Overall, it’s a great model to paint and I love seeing how each of us had our own separate takes on it.
