About this deal

First things first, what an amazing piece of kit and how impressive is that reach, if there is one long reach tree pruner I had to recommend, this would have to be it. At least for most people and for me personally. Shaft length adjustable from 2.4m to 4m Maximum reach of 6m with a 230° adjustable cutting head Cuts fresh wood with a diameter of up to 32mm Nevertheless, it’s a powerful tool and can be invaluable whilst pruning bigger branches – it’s just a case of making sure you can control it properly. In general, pole pruners come in two sizes. The shorter fixed length pole pruners are around 1.6m (5.5’) long, and are perfect for managing smaller trees up to 4m (12’) tall, whereas the longer telescopic pole pruners, which extend from 2.4m to 4.0m (8’-12’) long, can reach up to an incredible 6m (18’), but are a bit too long and unwieldy for smaller jobs. The handle is ergonomically shaped for comfortable holding, and has a durable, orange soft-grip coating that has an almost slightly rubbery grip.

The long 47cm blade is curved to reach around the branches and cut sharply. The telescopic handle extends to 2.5m which, when you add in your own height, gets quite high up into your trees. Although this is a lightweight long reach tree pruner, it can feel a little heavy when fully extended as you move it around. Pros The cutting mechanism is geared to provide additional mechanical advantage, making cutting up to 3 times easier than with standard mechanisms, allowing for effortless and exact high-level pruning. Other pole pruners use an external rope attached externally to the cutter head to activate the blade, which can tangle in branches, and requires one hand to hold the rope, leaving only one hand on the pole. With a rope-free design and a sliding handle on the shaft, this allows for more precise two-handed control and more power when making the pruning cut. Allows access to tree crowns and dense bushes, enabling the gardener to trim overhead without needing a ladder, or at ground level without bending or kneeling. Here are the before and after photos of my white sapote tree, it was fairly overgrown and well overdue for a good pruning. The height of the top of the canopy was close to the roof guttering and the overhead wires.Steel gearing works on a 12:1 gear ratio so applying minimum force translates to a lot of cutting force. If you also want to use the pruner for some close-range jobs, make sure that its non-extended length is manageable. Extendable pruners tend to be over 1 m long even on their shortest setting, so there may still be jobs that will still require a pair of smaller hand pruners.

The Silverline 1.5-2.5mExtendable Pruning Saw is one of the most affordable models in our review. It features a durable, triple-ground blade that cuts cleanly on both the forward and reverse strokes. this doubles your cutting ability and halves your cutting time. Lightweight tree pruner with a saw blade that lets you cut through small to medium diameter branches for as long as you want. The blade is made from alloy steel and has sharp, solid serrations. There’s 4 cutting angles to choose from depending on what you are cutting and at what height. There’s no bypass mechanism. Instead, the branch is held in place while the two-way blade produces a smooth and clean cut.

The grip at the end of the handle is also an actuating ball which can be pulled to close the blades and perform a cut. This way both hands can hold the pole pruner at the very end for maximum reach, and one hand can pull on the orange handle at the base to work the blade action. Quite innovative! Anvil looper tree pruner comes with a three-metre maximum length telescopic pole to reach medium-high branches. The adjustable cutting head moves up to 230 degrees to reach those awkward place at the top of the tree.

Telescopic Handle Darlac Expert 4.9 Metre Extendable Pole – Telescopic Handle

The GARDENA Telescopic StarCut 410 Plus tree pruner provides effortless manual cutting of your tree branches on all fronts. This pruner is classed as a lopper, so it works with a scissor-like motion rather than as a saw. Whether you need to prune roses, or cut high-reaching bamboo canes, the Garten Primus Rose Cavalier Pruner makes it easy to do all the jobs around the garden without requiring multiple tools.

What Is The UK’s Best Telescopic Tree Pruner?

Remember that the further the pruner is extended, the harder it’ll be to control and use safely. Therefore, it’s best to only extend the pruner as far as necessary, depending on the job. Figs on the other hand have soft, pliable wood, which cut cleanly and didn’t jam in the blades. The big leaves of fig trees tend to obscure the cutting head, making it hard to see, but the bright orange blade support made it easy to see where the cutting jaws were, whether the light was dim, or looking up almost into the sun where the glare made it hard to see clearly. If you’re after a set of pruners with a simple mechanism, the Sunorchid Telescopic Tree Pruners are worth considering. These pruners have a dual use pruning saw that can be used either for pruning tall trees or as a handheld tool for neatening bushes at eye level.
