About this deal

The thing is you only have one of these keys, so you have to use it wisely and avoid using it early in the game. Once the game ends, each player counts every square on the piece(s) that they did NOT place on the board, each counting as a negative (−1) point (e.g. an unplayed tetromino is worth −4 points). A player who played all of their pieces is awarded a 15-point bonus. If the last piece played was a monomino, provided that all pieces of own color have been played, the player is awarded a 20-point bonus instead. The player with the highest score wins. [4] Two- and three-player variations [ edit ]

When a player cannot place a piece, they pass, and play continues as normal. The game ends when no one can place any more pieces.Whenever a player is unable to place one of his/her remaining pieces on the board, that player must pass his/her turn.

You may already know Blokus, an abstract strategy board game where you compete against other players to score the most points after placing as many Tetris-shaped pieces on the board as possible. Gather all the pieces of a single color. Choose 1 of the 4 colors to use throughout the game and take all 21 colored tiles of that color. The tiles are between 1-5 squares large and vary in shape. Organize the tiles in front of you from smallest to largest so you can easily see what shapes you have to use. In turn, players select one of their tiles. This piece must touch the corner of a similarly coloured tile, but may not be placed so that edges of the player’s shapes are touching each other. With each turn, player’s pieces expand in a diagonal fashion out from the corners of the board. After approximately four turns these shapes start to meet in the middle of the board. Try to keep as many corners available as you can by deploying your pieces in all directions. Players who choose to build their board through a single path will surely face difficulties as other players take advantage of their leaks, and will find no more room to expand. There are many different options of play during this phase. There is little need for over-analysis. Options for play often fall into two groups; there may be one clear move for a specific piece, or the player may be faced with a large variety of tile choices.

Try to run straight for the center, and then extend tendrils toward any zones that are looking particularly contested. You can achieve this by starting with a VWZ opening (explained earlier), and then inserting the X, which may be harder to place later on. If you’re playing a 2-player game, each player will play as 2 different colors. One player chooses blue and red while the other player chooses yellow and green. The second phase starts when player tiles approach each other. This usually commences after turn four and it is now that Blokus gets interesting. Careful selection of tiles mean a player can wrap their pieces around others and wriggle their way into new territory. It is important to optimise space on the grid and leave very few gaps between tiles. By using shapes wisely players can cut off and limit other’s tile-laying opportunities. Each player then counts the number of unit squares in his/her remaining pieces (1 unit square = -1 point).

Object of the game

Be aware anytime you create a leak that can be exploited by your opponents and try to limit their options by keeping them small. Let’s see some examples:

There are: 1 piece of only one square, 1 piece of two squares, 2 pieces of three squares, 5 pieces of four squares, and 12 pieces of five squares. Board Game Country is a place where old-school and new-school board gamers meet to share their experiences in the board gaming world. It is not easy to determine how bad a leak might be for you, but here are some basics you could take into account: One of the best tips I can give to you is to take advantage of the whole board. You don’t get any points for using space efficiently.
