(Image credit: TechRadar) EarFun Air review: design and features Due to this tuning, the EarFun Air will be able to grant highs that can be listened for long time without getting annoyingly sibilant/piercing but neither being overly muddy nor dark. The sound isolation provided by the EarFun Air is substantially stronger than many average headphones. Listen to the slightly pricier, Award-winning Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 and, in comparison, there’s an extra ounce of detail and finesse over the Earfun Air Pro across the frequencies. But without noise cancelling, USB-C charging or in-ear detection, and taking their higher price tag into account, it’s an altogether different proposition.

The JLab Go Air Pop are an incredibly accomplished pair of buds considering how cheap they are. Connectivity was instant and reliable throughout our testing, we also liked the simple on-ear volume controls. There's a mic in each earbud for call-handling, and you'll get basic EQ profiles too – triple tap either earpiece and you’ll hear the soothing voice say “balanced’, “bass boost” or “JLab signature”. Specs: in-ear (with stem), dimension: 2″ x 1.2: x 2.2″, weight: 8.4 ounces, Bluetooth 5.0, full-charge (case): 1.5 hours, charging type: USB type C, playtime: 35 hours with charging case The bottom of each Air TWS earbuds has two gold connector plates that work with the case to charge up the earbuds. There’s also another noise-canceling microphone that’s placed in between the two gold charging plates.Fans of the original Earfun Air will have no complaints about the updated model’s sound. Also, both earpieces feel very similar when worn; the driver housing is virtually identical in shape despite the new stems, extra mic and larger drivers inside. The earphones use Bluetooth 5.0 and supports AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs. There's no support for AptX. Performance This little-known company has produced a comfortable, nicely built set of headphones that also boast excellent battery life, wireless charging support and an expansive listen. If you’re after something inexpensive that’ll sound good on the treadmill, the Earfun Air buds are simply some of the best cheap wireless headphones you can buy.

One of the joys of the Award-winning Earfun Air true wireless earbuds was the simple and reliable pairing experience. We’re happy to report that is still the case here – Earfun consistently manages to do the basics properly. We open the lid, then snap it shut and count to 30. We reopen the case, leave the earpieces inside, go to our phone’s Bluetooth menu, see the Earfun Air Pro as an 'available device' and connect. It’s easy. And once they're paired, the connection is solid. Do you intend to workout with your earbuds? If so, you'll need buds that will stay put, so look out for interchangeable eartips and fins to hold them in place.The design of the EarFun Free 2 carries over from the original, which means they’re a thoroughly plastic affair. At this asking price that isn’t an unexpected development.

Elsewhere, the EarFun Air offers a lot of everything else you could want. There's wireless charging which continues to be the most effort-free way of recharging earbuds. So, do Earfun’s true wireless Air headphones sound as good as in-ears at double, triple or quadruple the price? The answer is no. If you have the money and prioritise a superior sound, irrespective of useful features such as waterproofing or wearer detection, there are models that will better suit you. But until now, we’ve never awarded five stars to a set of true wireless headphones at this budget level –despite testing models from well-known and highly respected audio brands. These budget buds are great value, bringing you a solid build quality and top-notch audio performance with a killer battery life. These are all features you'd expect from a product that normally costs double the amount. VerdictThe Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 Plus buds are some of our all-time favorites and they come at a pleasing budget price – especially considering how great they sound. Features-wise, you don't get ANC here, but we're willing to let that slide for the price. But you do get a great companion app, a reliable Bluetooth connection, support for aptX and AAC codecs and 9 hours of battery life with a further 4 full charges from the case, bringing you 45 hours in total. Trebles are a touch muddled, and nothing is quite as revolutionary as with more expensive buds – spending a little more on the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 Plus will open up more from your music, no question. In addition to this, both mid-bass and sub-bass offered by this TWS were strong and impacting but did not become overly boosted as to be classified as a “bass-only” headphone.
