About this deal

Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affairexplores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken. While romance elements are present in the story, “Evidence of the Affair” is more focused on exploring the emotional fallout of infidelity. As well as the journey of self-discovery and healing for the characters involved. It delves into themes of trust, forgiveness, and the complexities of human relationships. Does Evidence of the Affair have a happy ending? short stories are definitely fun to read, I love it for weekend morings the most. You gave many to read and I always value your advice

The kitchen is my happy place but when it’s COVID free I’m hopping on a plane. I’m here to share my thoughts on books, my book inspired recipes and my life.

So many of my GR friends and gal pals adore your work and I must say that the covers of your Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo books intrigued me. My intuitions kept telling me to put you off. It was just easier to consider the possibility that he’d changed his entire personality overnight than it was to believe that he would cheat. But he’s the same Ken I’ve always known and loved and still eats a turkey sandwich every day. It’s just that he’s capable of things I never knew.” It is the story of a classic movie star, Evelyn Hugo, who decides to tell a rookie journalist her life story -- including the truth behind all seven of her husbands.

This was an engaging novella which takes place in the late 70's in California. Two people who are married are having an affair. Carrie finds love letters from a woman named Janet in her dermatologist husband Ken's briefcase. Carrie and Ken have been married about ten years. Carrie doesn't work because Ken says he wants her to relax so that she can get pregnant. They have been trying for quite some time, without success. Eventually, Carrie decides to write to David, the husband of Janet. She tells David that his wife Janet is having an affair with her husband Ken, and that she will send David xerox copies of the letters if he would like to read the evidence for himself. This launches a letter writing relationship between Carrie and David born out of the shared betrayal by their spouses. Your influence however persisted and so I was glad to note through a recent review by new GR pal that you had this longish short story. I once heard some diet guru say that you really only need to eat three bites of anything. Take one bite to say “hello,” one bite to savor the flavor, and one bite to say “goodbye.” Hahhahahhahaha! Evidence of the Affair, written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, narrated by Julia Whelan, George Newbern, James Daniels, and Dara Rosenberg. This is a story of two married couples, an affair and some letters. That is really all you need to know. The cover is gorgeous and fitting as it took place in the 1970's. I really can't say much more because I don't want to give it away.

List Chapter or Page:

I am not alone at the party. You are at this miserable party with me. And it brings a smile to my face to be standing next to you.” After I read them, I sat in the living room by our record player and put on Carly Simon and sobbed. Then I moved on to Daisy Jones and Carole King. All so easy to cry to, if you’re in the mood.” (Evidence of the Affair Quotes) Taylor Jenkins Reid

What would you do if you found a letter from your husband’s mistress? Set in the 1970s, this entire short story is made up of letters, mostly between Carrie and David whose spouses are having an affair. Delights can be hard to come by recently, so I truly cherish getting to laugh with you.” Taylor Jenkins Reid This little book could have been longer. I had questions at the end (as I always do) but I feel that TJR could have easily extended this narrative to provide more detail. Also, the wrap up felt a little unbelievable, but I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Carrie and David are each struggling with their own unique circumstances and grappling with the consequences of their partners’ infidelity. As they navigate the storm of emotions and seek closure, their individual stories soon intertwine. As a result, forging an unlikely bond that transcends the boundaries of betrayal. This was such a heartbreaking yet heartwarming story. I loved the connection Carrie and David formed while going through the hardest time in their life. What would you do if you found out your husband was having an affair? You found her letters to your husband, so the evidence is in your hands! Would you sit down, write a letter to her husband and 'spill the beans'? Well, that's what devastated wife Carrie Alsop did and she bravely mails the letter to David Mayer! Carrie wants to know if David, by chance, has found any letters written by her husband to his wife. If so, she would like them forwarded to her and if he would like the letters his wife wrote to her husband, she will send them to him, as well. Evidence of the Affair is a standalone novella by Taylor Jenkins Reid and does not belong to any series. It is a self-contained story that delves into the intricacies of love, betrayal, and the aftermath of an affair. So no need to go and splurge your bank account on TJR books (although we highly recommend it). Is Evidence of the Affair a romance novel? This is a great idea, but it's a little more basic than I was hoping for from the author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'you're safe with me'- that's intimacy.”

I love the premise of the story. A woman finds out her husband is having an affair; rather than confront him immediately, she gets in touch with the lady's husband and they start up a kind of pen-pal friendship, being a comfort to them both. After all, no one else in their lives knows just how it feels. I also like how the end of the story is kind of an "all's well that ends well" type of ending. People were still hurt; everyone still went through difficult things. This was a very frank and understanding look at human failings, served up to the reader in a very digestible and relatable format. Beginning in 1976, a written correspondence commences between the wife and husband whose spouses are having an affair with one another. Audiobook Review I mostly listened to this book. Four narrators for four different characters was genius and each gave a heartfelt performance. The pacing, inflection and emotion were all on par and the voices reflected the respective characters nicely. In the short hour and 19 minutes it takes to listen to this audiobook, you could easily whip up my Evidence of the Affair chocolate mousse. It will make you cheat…… on your diet. 😉

I will be here dancing with you for as long as we want to get groovy. All right, that was truly lame. I’ll quit writing now before this really goes off the rails.” The epistolary story evolves from here to also include the letters exchanged by their spouses, revealing their thoughts and feelings as they continue with their marriages as though nothing was going on. Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid Narrated by Julia Whelan, George Newbern, James Daniels and Dara Rosenberg This short story gave me a complete character arc and kept me on my toes the entire time! That's all you can really ask for.
