If you are looking for the most efficient bike chain lube for long distances and/or the harshest of weather conditions, look no further. Developed specifically for Team Sky, Muc-Off Hydrodynamic Chain Lube will last for miles and miles with all the performance of the companies C3 ceramic lubes. Having used the Hydrodynamic lube many times, we can attest to the long life and performance that it offers. Though designed with long road races in mind, Hydrodynamic Lube works fantastically for off-road applications as well as cyclocross. Dry lubes, so-called because they’re designed for riding in dry conditions, are often made up of around 10 per cent lubricant – synthetic oils and additives – and 90 per cent carrier fluid. There are a few different types of chain wax available on the market, but not all of them are created equal. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at some of the best bike chain wax products out there and help you choose the right one for your needs. One popular option is WD-40 Bike Chain Wax. Before we jump into a full explanation of the process, it’s worth considering whether waxing chains is the best option for you and your bike. The testing of Scottoil showed it worked very well when you remember that it’s a constant loss system. This isn’t really designed to coat the outside of the chain plates, which while only cosmetic, can get a bit rusty if you haven’t got the delivery just so. Still though, they really do keep the rollers well lubed with little hassle. There are other chain oilers available too, like Tutoro, PDOiler and Loobman, but I don’t have any experience of these. Anecdotally, automatic oilers tend to be popular among their owners. Best chain lube for commuting

Recently, partly thanks to the increased availability of independent testing data, waxed-based lubricants have risen in popularity among performance-minded cyclists. Muc-Off, which makes both wet and dry ceramic lubes, says its ceramic lube contains tiny ‘ceramic particles’ that help reduce friction over the synthetic oils found in standard dry and wet lubes. If that sounds like too much hassle, a wet lube will help prevent corrosion between rides and provide lubrication in a wide range of conditions. For non-racers, for whom peak speed and efficiency isn’t the ultimate goal, reducing drivetrain wear – and therefore extending the life of your components – can potentially save you a fair amount of money. For wet conditions, the winner is slightly less clear cut, but we’d still recommend waxed-based lubricants for their efficiency. Crucially, however, you’ll have to be prepared to clean your chain immediately after wet rides to prevent corrosion.

It is important to understand the variety of chain types and recognize what type a motorcycle uses, as lubes will specify which ones they are safe for. To avoid damage, riders should only use lubricants that are explicitly safe and compatible with their type of bike.
