About this deal

I got the chance to put Trek Ultra to the test on a recent trip to Southeast Asia. As I was travelling in low risk areas of Vietnam (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay & Hoi An) and Bali (Nusa Lembongan, Gili Islands & Ubud) I didn’t feel it necessary to use a maximum strength repellent such as Trek 50. For travel to countries and areas with a high risk of Malaria, a maximum strength repellent with 50% DEET is usually recommended. DEET’s reputation has suffered in recent decades, and many repellents now boast of their DEET-free credentials. But if you want to guarantee yourself as much protection as possible against the mozzies, then frankly nothing beats it. Each squirt from this product will last a solid six hours before you’ll need to re-apply. Like most DEET-based sprays, it gives off a very distinct odour. But even if it’s one that you dislike, here’s the good news: the mosquitoes dislike it even more. A commonly used chemical that’s effective in repelling biting insects is DEET and can be found in any insect repellent whether it’s spray, lotion or soaked into wipes. It can applied directly to our skin surfaces and acts by masking our scent to prevent insects from biting us. This maximum strength mosquito repellent from Pyramid’s Trek range (formerly Repel 55) is suitable for use in countries with a risk of Malaria and other insect-borne diseases, such as Dengue Fever & Zika Virus. With a 50% formula and up to 6 hours of protection per application, this mosquito repellent is a great way to help avoid insect bites when travelling.

The Jungle Formula brand makes all kinds of mosquito repellent lotions and sprays, but this diffuser is particularly effective and easy to use. Its odour-free prallethrin insecticide vapour kills and wards off mosquitoes, midges and other small flying insects for up to 450 hours. So if you switch it on for 10 hours every night, it’ll be a month and a half before you need to buy another 35ml refill. You get one bottle in this box, along with the diffuser. That’s more than enough to see you through a holiday in a bug-friendly climate, or through a balmy period of summer. Destinations Are you seeking new holiday destinations that will spring some new inspiration and excitement into your life? Good. Here are some fantastic ideas that will make you proud to say “I’ve been there!”. Pyramid 100 Millilitre Trek Sensitive (Formerly Repel Sensitive) Insect/Mosquito Repellent Non DEET Saltidin Spray (100 Millilitre, 2 Bottles) Make sure you apply sun cream first, about 15 minutes before you apply your repellent. It’s also worth noting that DEET based repellents reduce the effectiveness of your sun protection, so you should always opt for SPF30 or SPF50 (definitely go for SPF50 if you’re of the red-headed persuasion like me!) EffectivenessPicaridine is one of the safer chemicals used in mosquito repellents as it has a low toxic level making it less likely to cause irritation. The main downside, as you’ll notice from the photo, is that the unit has a two-pin plug, as it’s primarily designed for Europe and other holiday destinations. So to use it in the UK, you’ll need a 2-pin plug adapter. And while prallethrin is safe for pets and kids, the makers advise that pregnant women should steer clear.

Using the ingredient of Citronellol, this effectively repels insects and leaves your skin soft and smooth at the same time. Currently the WHO recommend 50 deet mosquito repellent for all tropical areas of the world. This is because DEET 50 is a proven but cheap mosquito repellent. Besides the timeframe of your travels, you should think about your size as well. A small person wouldn’t require much product to cover their entire skin surface area but someone of a big build would. Natural or Chemical IngredientsYou’ll need to regularly reapply Theye, especially after sweating or swimming, as it fades faster than a DEET-based spray, but it does have a fresh summery scent that we found made it pleasant to use, and there’s no alcohol in the formula, so it won’t dry out skin.
