About this deal

Implied Love Interest: His relationship with Manea is vague, but at minimum Gothel believes there may have been something between them. Puberty Superpower: It's implied that Ursula began to realize she wasn't human and came into her magical abilities when she hit puberty. Brainless Beauty: Princess Tulip Morningstar — but only because she wasn't given the chance to become worldly-wise and book-smart, which would have made her a much happier person.

Grand Romantic Gesture: The Prince does this twice while wooing Princess Tulip — first with an elaborate Christmas display in the ballroom, second with a path of rose petals that lead into the royal rose garden. He sabotages himself the first time by expressing disgust with her when she runs into his arms before making herself presentable for the occasion. The second time is successful enough to evoke a Hope Spot, but that ultimately comes to nothing; both times, the fact that he doesn't actually love her gets in the way. He does come to care about Belle, however, and this contributes to his gesture of "giving her" the castle library succeeding wonderfully. The Unfavorite: Sir Richard obviously prefers Cinderella to her stepsisters. He lets her continue her lessons and plans to present her at court, while Anastasia and Drizella must do chores instead of learning, and aren't allowed to be presented because Richard thinks they're too ugly. Dying as Yourself: The Queen grows increasingly evil and more cruel as the book goes on. In her final moments she's given a choice on how to die and ultimately chooses to sacrifice herself. She ends up dying with a clear mind.

Driven to Madness: The sisters' torment of the Prince/Beast also pushes him towards outright insanity. Protagonist Journey to Villain: Fairest of All for the Queen, the first two acts of The Beast Within for the Beast (the final act is his Redemption Quest), Mistress of All Evil for Maleficent, and Mother Knows Best for Gothel. Gothel and Manea's manner of death resemble each other. They're both "betrayed" by their daughters and turned into dust. Driven to Suicide: The Odd Sisters give her a choice: run into the woods and be safe or go up the cliff and die. The queen chooses death. I Am Not Pretty: A major component to her character is her inability to recognize her own beauty. She loathes being seen without her make-up on or her hair done. This is due to her father's abuse towards her.

Queen Rose

The Odd Sisters showed up one day during an art workshop about faces. I am not a conventional painter so I was amazed when they kept appearing and asking to be given the right to make an entrance. Rags to Royalty: She started out as the simple daughter of a mirror maker before she was courted by the king and made into his wife. World's Most Beautiful Woman: Downplayed. She's the most beautiful woman in "all the land", meaning her kingdom alone. Eventually, she stops being the most beautiful as her grief takes a toll on her.

Years after their corruption of the Evil Queen, they proceeded to encourage their youngest sister, Circe, into cursing the Prince after he coldly dismissed her for being a commoner. During the curse, they spy on the Prince through the Enchanted Mirror, and also send their cat Pflanze to spy on him as well. Eventually, she warps into the evil stepmother.Dances and Balls: The Prince has one to find a new fiancée after breaking off his engagement with Circe in Fairest of All. It's Gaston's idea, inspired by the example of a prince from a neighboring kingdom finding success "after the matter of the glass slipper was sorted".
