About this deal

It was, what I term, an easy read. I finished it in 2 days. It was a pleasure to read. My list of preferred authors now gathering new names. Things start to unravel for Jenny, who is concerned that she will become chief suspect and have her past revealed. Don’t you let Mark hear you saying that. Isn’t he always declaring, The day is what you make of it?’ Jenny has managed to recover from the traumatic childhood she had and grow up and become a vet in a sleepy village in Devon. Where she lives with her husband Mark and their two children. Jenny hasn’t told her husband who her father is. She is the daughter of Paul Slater better known as the The Painted lady Killer. To begin with, the vet practice didn’t even have any veterinary nurses – we only had a small client list and Hayley ran pretty much everything while we did the direct pet care. Our plan had always been to build the business, though – and three years ago, things finally came together when we hired Vanessa, who is the senior nurse now. Nisha came on board more recently, at the same time as Abi who Hayley is training up on the reception but who also has her eye on becoming a veterinary nurse; she’s bright and enthusiastic and young enough to ‘mould’. It’s a happy practice. We all get along – each bringing a unique set of skills to the table.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my free e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! This has a good plot and is a great idea but is a little slow, even dragging in some places, and was a little underwhelming. I enjoyed the alternating point of view between Jenny and Mark, which works well. The opening chapter draws you in brilliantly as well. Both Jenny and Mark are hiding significant things, added to the extracts from Paul Slater’s story brings an extra element which will give you plenty of questions as well as the chills.

Why isn’t Daddy taking us?’ Ella asks as she pulls her booster seat from the rear of the car and positions it in the passenger side of my Volvo estate. I read the Serial Killer’s Wife first and assumed this book was a continuation. But it’s a different story unrelated. The author said, it does continue the theme of a murderer within the family and the effects this has on a particular member.

This one was a slower burn than the first, and a bit less “psychological,” but I still enjoyed it. The interviews between the killers were great fun. I lol forward to where the author will go next. In a sleepy Devon village, a woman is taken from the streets. Local vet Jenny is horrified. This kind of thing doesn’t happen here. Now, our protagonist is a women in her 40’s and this read revolves around her, though it does have a few short chapters from two other perspectives. Her personality is pieced together so well and at a perfect pace! Her emotions were captured perfectly and I loved the ending she got. Too late, I realise I should’ve corrected her, praised her instead of letting her think she’d done a bad job, but my mind is not quite here. I need to make sure it is, though, because in twenty minutes I’m going to be operating on our first animal with Samir and Vanessa.I thought The Serial Killer's Wife was a brilliant read and looked forward to her next title. How clever to come up with the idea for this one.
