Hybrid Fibre cables combine copper conductors (carrying the low bandwidth Comms and signalling signals) with Optical Fibre (carrying the High Bandwidth video and audio signal) - that means no conversion of the signalling signal (to and from optical) which we find makes for a more reliable system. Fibre cables often come with detachable full size HDMI connectors with USB dongles for external power - the two part hood is handy when installing the cable in a conduit but we have found they are also far from reliable long term. Fibre (sometimes called Active Fibre) carries everything on the optical cable so does require the additional conversion - which can make for slower and less consistent handshaking and source switching.

When you are required to use a longer 6M HDMI cable and effectively send signals through them without hampering the audio and visual data, active electronics will aid in cleaning up and the signal boosters present in the cable will help in effective transfer. The facility of a signal booster is available in two ways. It is either imbibed in the connectors or you can use a stand-alone booster box. Both ways are equally efficient and require a power source.
