About this deal

Scoring takes place at three different intervals and is determined by the number of each type of building that a player has in their Alhambra. Plus the length of their city walls. The Modules In each case, the player with the most buildings is awarded the points for 1st place indicated on the scoring card next to the name of the building. Only the players with the most buildings of each kind receive points when the "1st Scoring Round" card is drawn. Then put the piles on top on one another again with the fifth pile on the bottom, then the fourth, the third, the second and finally the first at the very top. The whole pile is then placed face-down next to the building market.

A player must play currency cards of the correct type, (indicated by the currency above the tile), that total at least

The remaining building tiles from the building market are given to the players who have the most money of the respective currency in their hand. If two or more players have the same amount of money then that building tile remains on the building market. The Thieves adds 12 thief cards, which are given to the players at the start of the game. A player may play a thief card between turns (except before their own turn) and take a currency card matching the type of thief card played. Important: If a player can pay the exact amount of currency, it remains their turn, and they may decide which of the three actions they want to perform next. The points awarded to a player are recorded on the scoring board. Each player moves their counter one space forward for each point that they have been awarded.

It should be noted that there have been many expansions released for Alhambra over the years, and now Queen Games sells them in a massive collector’s edition including the base game and all the expansions. Not having played with any of the expansion sets, I’m not in a position to review them, but they may be worthwhile to research more about when considering whether to own Alhambra. Final Thoughts Utilizing your reserve board can be beneficial in certain situations, whether to snag a building you will need later on or to prevent an opponent from adding it to their own structure. Should you add this to your collection? Sure. Alhambra is a decent game for newcomers and casual gamers because of all the reasons listed above. If you find your game nights skew more towards Le Havre and Dungeon Lords, Alhambra may not necessarily be for you, but you may find it worthwhile to hold onto for nights when you have rookies and non-gamer family over. If two or more players have the same amount of money then that building tile remains on the building market. Building tiles given to players in this way may then be added to their Alhambras in accordance with the building rules. The Bazaars adds bazaar tiles to the game. Bazaars, when drawn, are placed next to the building market, and may be bought (with exact change only) for the same price as the building of the corresponding currency type being sold. Bazaars score only in the final round of play, and score a point for each adjacent or diagonal building matching the colours on the bazaar. You can either: add your new building tile to your Alhambra or place it on your reserve board. You can have as many building tiles on your reserve board as you want. Redesigning your Alhambra

A player can take any one of the money cards from those lying face-up, or several money cards if they do not add up to more than 5 (the currency does not matter). This Arabian-themed game is the most recent update of the 1992 mafia board game Al Capone. Originally released in German, the English language version of Alhambra was put together by Uberplay before they went the way of the dodo. Thankfully, creator Dirk Henn has continued to release extensions and as of 2013 there are six extensions available, but here we’ll focus on the original, a game that marries strategy and planning and will particularly appeal to those with a flair for design and an interest in aesthetically colourful games.
